*** Charity Afternoon Tea & Cake – Easter Saturday 4th April 2026. ***

We held a charity afternoon tea on Easter Saturday 4th April. It was decided that the charity we would support this year would be the British Heart Foundation.

We thought this was apt as two of our members suffered heart attacks last year whilst playing tennis. We had 44 attending this event, so it was very well attended.

I would like to thank all the cake bakers who delighted us with their culinary skills. Also, a massive thanks to all the helpers on the day, whether in the kitchen, behind the bar or selling raffle tickets.

We had a lot of positive remarks on the day. Thanks as well for the donations for the raffle prizes & books. We made a fantastic profit of £539.12 and therefore will be donating £250 to the British Heart Foundation.

They inform me that a certificate will be given to us which will be displayed on the noticeboard. It was a fabulous day and nice to see some new faces.

Thanks again to all the volunteers who helped on the day.

*** Junior Easter Craft Activity Morning – 28-March-2026 ***

We held an Easter Activity Session for the first time on Saturday morning 28th March.

After consulting with Head Coach, Jonno Seville, it was decided to offer this for his first two groups on the Saturday morning sessions.

We only had 5 up to the day but once the youngsters saw what was happening 4 more asked if they could join in.

It was a great success and all the children loved being creative with their basket/hat & easter card making. All the children thanked me and they were all very polite and a pleasure to work with. It was a family affair with volunteers as my daughter; granddaughter & Pete helped on the day.

*** Janet Davies: Presidents Evening – Saturday 15th November 2025. ***

Our Annual Presidents Evening was held on Saturday 15th November.

It was attended by 50 members, family & friends.

Our presiding President, Janet Davies decided to have Meat & Potato or Cheese & Onion Pie. This was supplied for the first time by a local bakery, Hollingworth Bakery. We will certainly be considering them again for any future social events as the feedback was very positive.

We managed to book Pete the DJ who we had last year, but obviously any hiring like this doesn’t come cheap and this was incorporated in the ticket prices.

At 9pm, we held our annual Awards Ceremony. Firstly, the Tennis Ladder Awards were presented by Organiser, John Collins to the following winners:

• Ladder Singles Champion: Josh Byrom
• Highest Place Female: Emma Gumbley
• Most Matches Played: Andrew Harding (with an impressive 53 matches played)
• Doubles Ladder Champions: Luke Robinson & Max Woolstencroft
• Most Matches Played: Kath Jackson & Julie Griffiths

Following this, our Club Chairman, Nick Holmes MC’d the following annual Presidents Awards:

• Most Improved Junior Boy 2025: Brayden Collins-Holmes
• Most Improved Junior Girl 2025: Molly Keenan
• Men’s Doubles Pair of The Year 2025: Ciaran Dale & Vinny Coffey
• Presidents Award 2025: Chris Lolley

The above Junior Awards were nominated and presented by our Head Coach, Jonno Seville and President, Janet Davies had the pleasure of presenting her nominated “Presidents Award” to Chris Lolley.

Janet was then invited to the floor to deliver her speech where she paid tribute to Pat Jenkins who sadly passed away earlier this year in tragic circumstances and then finished by announcing the club President for 2026 who is Chris Lolley.

The evening then continued with great music from Peter the DJ with members and guests dancing and celebrating.

I would like to take this opportunity to thank all the volunteers who helped me during the day in setting up. Trevor Hatch, Andrew Harding and Pete Lolley. Also, during the evening with John, Judith, Kath, Sue, Jackie, Joy H, Karen, Gillian, Andrew Harding & Salman who helped in various ways. Without this help we couldn’t have these social events.

I would also like to thank our Chairman, Nick Holmes for all his hard work leading up to and during the evening.

*** Men’s & Ladies Doubles Tournament:
Sunday 21st September 2025 ***

We were blessed with a warm, dry and sunny day where 14 pairs of men and 7 pairs of ladies turned up for a fantastic and keenly fought competition.

Friends and family were able to enjoy, support and watch the matches in comfort on a warm sunny afternoon.

It was a very busy day with competitors playing lots of tennis. Many of the games were very close, and despite fiercely contested games, all the competitors were respectful of their opponents and the atmosphere was supportive and friendly.

Many thanks to Chris, John and other members who cooked bacon and sausage sandwiches, served drinks and helped to clear up whilst playing in the competition. A real team effort!

Congratulations to all the competitors and this year’s winners and runners up!

*** Geoff Kenworthy Men’s Open Singles Tournament:
Sunday 14th September 2025. ***

This year the tournament was short on numbers. Only 13 players entered compared to previous years where we have been having around 20 players. This was mainly due to it clashing with the Manchester derby. Nevertheless, it was a highly competitive day with lots of good tennis being played.

Bacon & Sausage butties were served for the players and spectators. Meat & Potato Pies and Cheese & Onion Pies were also served at lunchtime.

The day started off with fairly dry calm conditions, however, the forecast was for heavy rain to take hold in the afternoon and it duly arrived just after 1pm. We managed to play through the heavy drizzle up until the final where the courts were beginning to pool.

It was decided to delay the main open final to Saturday 27th September after social tennis at 4pm where it was hoped the weather would be better and more people available to attend to make an event of it.

The Plate Final however, was played out in the bad weather as one of the finalists, Chris Morton from New Mills lives in North Wales and would struggle to make the 27th. The other finalist was Priory member, Ben Goode. They did their best to make it a decent final in poor conditions, however, Chris Morton went on to win 6/2. Congratulations to him.

On Saturday 27th September, the Men’s Open Final between Priory’s Chris Czermak and Ed Seville went ahead in much better conditions, dry, cloudy and no wind. They decided to have a best of 3 set final. The tennis was of high quality with Chris winning a close match 4/6 6/0 6/2. Well done Chris.

Many thanks go to Chris Lolley for organising another challenging tournament. Also, thanks to everyone that took part and to the spectators who turned up to watch.

*** Priory Centenary Garden - Pat Jenkins Memorial Plaque Presentation: Monday 11th August 2025 ***

Thanks to everyone who supported the garden party at Tony Jenkins back garden last month with a £1,000 being donated to Willow Wood Hospice.

As promised, we were given an extra Active Tameside 1 year’s membership to offer as a prize. A ticket was put in for everyone who attended and/or donated.

We did the draw at Monday Morning Senior Social Tennis Session and Janet and Gwyn won the prize. It couldn’t have gone to a more deserving couple and I’m sure Pat would have been proud.

Pat’s husband, Tony was also present to put the memorial plaque in place for Pat in our centenary garden.

Thanks to everybody who donated!

*** Men’s & Ladies Singles Tournament:
Sunday 10th August 2025 ***

5 ladies and 14 men turned up on a beautiful summers day to take part in our annual club tournament.

The heat was challenging for the players at times but the spectators were able to relax and enjoy an excellent afternoon’s tennis.

There were many closely contested matches and superb performances from our members. All the competitors are to be congratulated on their tennis, humour and sportsmanship throughout the afternoon.
