*** Street Child Charity Fund Raising, BBQ & Pub Quiz Night:
15-August-2026 ***

Priory Tennis Club held a charity fund raising event on Saturday 15th August. This involved a BBQ and a Pub Quiz.

Club member, Joe Unwin approached the club over a month ago to request the club to host this event to raise money for his charity which is detailed below.

Fundraising Purpose
The purpose of this fundraiser was to support Street Child in their mission to provide education, safety, and long term opportunities for vulnerable children worldwide.

By independently organising this event, the aim was to raise essential funds and increase local awareness of the challenges faced by children without access to secure schooling.

Every contribution made through the event directly supports Street Child’s ongoing projects, helping ensure that more children can learn, grow, and build brighter futures.

Attendance and Engagement
The Event was attended by 54 people which was made up of an incredible 30 attendants from the club’s members list and the rest, family and friends of members.

Henry Schofield kindly offered to help prepare and cook the food on the BBQ. John Colins and Kath Jackson volunteered to run the bar all evening and the Pub Quiz was well organised and presented brilliantly by Joe Unwin and enjoyed by all. Thank you to everyone involved for all of their hard work.

Funds Raised
The funds raised on the night came from ticket sales which were made up of £3.00 to enter the quiz and a further £9.00 for the BBQ. The club also agreed to donate 50% of Bar Profits as an added boost.

The total amount of money raised on the night came to an incredible £1,004.15.

Impact
The overall impact of this event is absolutely amazing. By using the money raised for Street Child, the ability to provide 2,500 children in Mozambique with sports clothing and equipment or provide education packs to almost 700 children.

Street Child recognise the vital importance that education has to development and that the only way they can significantly aid in the development of low-income country is to aid in the education of their youths. Joe said on behalf of Street Child, “I carried out this event in the hope that the enjoyment that attendants experience will hopefully inspire them to attend further events in the future”

*** Men’s & Ladies Singles Tournament:
Sunday 3rd August 2026 ***

On Sunday 3rd August, Priory held its annual men’s and ladies singles tournament. This year the tournament was organised by Martin Crowther. Due to the fantastic summer we have had, we had a really good turn out with 4 ladies and 18 men entering the tournament on another beautiful summer’s day.

We had many members, family and friends turn up to watch and support the event which was nice to see. Refreshments including Bacon & Sausage muffins were served and the bar was open. Many thanks to Chris Lolley and John Collins who helped with this.

The first round decided which players went into which event. Then a Championship 8-player round robin was split into two 4-player groups, and the 10 player Plate Competition was split into 2 groups of 5 also playing a round robin format. The Championship event was first to 5 games with a sudden death deuce and the Plate competition was first to 4 games also with a sudden death deuce.

There were many closely contested matches and superb performances from our members across the board. All the competitors are to be congratulated on their tennis, and sportsmanship throughout the afternoon.

The tournaments ran pretty well. The ladies’ final was played earlier in the afternoon because their 4-player round robin was finished by 3.00pm, which just left the final to play.
Natalie played a superb match to beat Judith 6/2.

In the men’s event, Josh played an outstanding match to beat Chris 6/1.

The plate was won by Jason who played well to beath Tim 6/2.

Many thanks go to Martin for putting on a well organised tournament which is the first time he has had a go at running such an event.

*** Annual Junior Tournament: Sunday 28th June 2026 ***

This was a busy but enjoyable afternoon for the juniors with a lot of matches to get through. There were 3 age group categories, 10 & Under, 14 & Under and 18 & Under.

The weather was dry and mild and eventually the sun came out mid-afternoon, however, we were thankful that the heatwave of the previous week had gone to make the temperatures more bearable for the juniors to play in.

It was also nice to see plenty of parents and family members attend to support the juniors.

The standard of play from some of our juniors is continuing to improve with a lot of steady tennis on display and some notable improvements in the 14 & Under Girls events. Some of the boys and girls playing are showing promising signs of being future good adult team players.

Jonno and his team worked very hard throughout the afternoon, and I’d like to thank them along with Danny Mcilmunn who helped signing our juniors in and collecting entry fees.

10 & Under Event
There were 11 players in this age group that entered the tournament.

14 & Under Event
This age group was very popular with 25 signing up to play.

18 & Under Event
Sadly, we only had a very low entry for this event this year with only 4 signing up to play.

*** Charity Afternoon Tea & Cake – Easter Saturday 4th April 2026. ***

We held a charity afternoon tea on Easter Saturday 4th April. It was decided that the charity we would support this year would be the British Heart Foundation.

We thought this was apt as two of our members suffered heart attacks last year whilst playing tennis. We had 44 attending this event, so it was very well attended.

I would like to thank all the cake bakers who delighted us with their culinary skills. Also, a massive thanks to all the helpers on the day, whether in the kitchen, behind the bar or selling raffle tickets.

We had a lot of positive remarks on the day. Thanks as well for the donations for the raffle prizes & books. We made a fantastic profit of £539.12 and therefore will be donating £250 to the British Heart Foundation.

They inform me that a certificate will be given to us which will be displayed on the noticeboard. It was a fabulous day and nice to see some new faces.

Thanks again to all the volunteers who helped on the day.

*** Junior Easter Craft Activity Morning – 28-March-2026 ***

We held an Easter Activity Session for the first time on Saturday morning 28th March.

After consulting with Head Coach, Jonno Seville, it was decided to offer this for his first two groups on the Saturday morning sessions.

We only had 5 up to the day but once the youngsters saw what was happening 4 more asked if they could join in.

It was a great success and all the children loved being creative with their basket/hat & easter card making. All the children thanked me and they were all very polite and a pleasure to work with. It was a family affair with volunteers as my daughter; granddaughter & Pete helped on the day.

*** Janet Davies: Presidents Evening – Saturday 15th November 2025. ***

Our Annual Presidents Evening was held on Saturday 15th November.

It was attended by 50 members, family & friends.

Our presiding President, Janet Davies decided to have Meat & Potato or Cheese & Onion Pie. This was supplied for the first time by a local bakery, Hollingworth Bakery. We will certainly be considering them again for any future social events as the feedback was very positive.

We managed to book Pete the DJ who we had last year, but obviously any hiring like this doesn’t come cheap and this was incorporated in the ticket prices.

At 9pm, we held our annual Awards Ceremony. Firstly, the Tennis Ladder Awards were presented by Organiser, John Collins to the following winners:

• Ladder Singles Champion: Josh Byrom
• Highest Place Female: Emma Gumbley
• Most Matches Played: Andrew Harding (with an impressive 53 matches played)
• Doubles Ladder Champions: Luke Robinson & Max Woolstencroft
• Most Matches Played: Kath Jackson & Julie Griffiths

Following this, our Club Chairman, Nick Holmes MC’d the following annual Presidents Awards:

• Most Improved Junior Boy 2025: Brayden Collins-Holmes
• Most Improved Junior Girl 2025: Molly Keenan
• Men’s Doubles Pair of The Year 2025: Ciaran Dale & Vinny Coffey
• Presidents Award 2025: Chris Lolley

The above Junior Awards were nominated and presented by our Head Coach, Jonno Seville and President, Janet Davies had the pleasure of presenting her nominated “Presidents Award” to Chris Lolley.

Janet was then invited to the floor to deliver her speech where she paid tribute to Pat Jenkins who sadly passed away earlier this year in tragic circumstances and then finished by announcing the club President for 2026 who is Chris Lolley.

The evening then continued with great music from Peter the DJ with members and guests dancing and celebrating.

I would like to take this opportunity to thank all the volunteers who helped me during the day in setting up. Trevor Hatch, Andrew Harding and Pete Lolley. Also, during the evening with John, Judith, Kath, Sue, Jackie, Joy H, Karen, Gillian, Andrew Harding & Salman who helped in various ways. Without this help we couldn’t have these social events.

I would also like to thank our Chairman, Nick Holmes for all his hard work leading up to and during the evening.
