🎙 I recorded an episode of The Honest Mic with Fortune because if there’s one thing I don’t do, it’s sugar‑coat the realities of work.

This episode digs into the hidden job market and what recruiting managers actually know (but rarely say out loud).

If you’ve ever wondered why some people get tapped on the shoulder for opportunities while others never hear a peep, this conversation will make a lot click into place.

We talked about:
• how hiring decisions really get made
• why some roles never make it to a job board
• the signals leaders look for long before an interview
• how candidates accidentally blend in instead of standing out

It’s practical, honest, and full of the kind of insight people usually only share off‑record.

🎙 Apparently I’m now collecting podcast appearances like loyalty points.

I joined Colleen DelVecchio of "Embrace the Squiggle" podcast for a conversation that started with careers… and then went delightfully off‑road.

We covered:
• why redundancy feels like being shoved out of a moving vehicle (but you can stand up again)
• the strange confidence boost that comes from realising you’ve survived worse
• how LinkedIn is basically Hogwarts - magic happens when you actually use it
• the myth that you need to “fix yourself” before making a career move
• and why your CV should stop reading like a Victorian novel

There were laughs, a few “did I really just say that?” moments, and some genuinely useful insights hidden between the sarcasm.

If you like career chat with a side of chaos, this one’s for you.

🎙 I went on another podcast (clearly I can’t stop talking!).

This time I joined the brilliant host of "Conversations with Sekhani" for a conversation about careers, confidence and why your next chapter doesn’t have to look anything like your last one.

We got into:
• the joys of redundancy (yes, I said joys)
• why your career story is more than a list of jobs you survived
• how to rebuild confidence without needing a personality transplant
• the myths people cling to about job searching
• and why “just be yourself” is terrible interview advice

There were laughs, a few truth bombs, and only one moment where I nearly said something that would have needed a bleep.

If you’re navigating change, supporting others through it or just enjoy hearing me talk while someone else does the editing, have a listen.

And yes, I did manage to sound like I know what I’m doing.

Always a win.

What do you do for a crust?

I recently joined the "What Do You Do For A Crust" podcast to talk about redundancy, reinvention, and why your career is not, in fact, over even if it feels like someone lobbed it into the nearest bin.

We covered everything from:
• how to handle redundancy without spiralling into a Google search of “am I unemployable now?”
• why your CV is not a historical document but a sales brochure
• the magic of LinkedIn when you stop lurking and actually post
• starting a business (spoiler: it’s not all lattes and Canva templates)
• and how confidence comes back faster than you think

If you’ve been through redundancy, are thinking about a career change, or just enjoy listening to me talk while someone else presses record, give it a listen.

September is upon us.

This is a perfect time to make resolutions for what you are going to achieve in the remaining 4 months of the year.

How many of you are kicking yourselves because you were planning on getting your job search sorted over the summer and you are no further on than you were in July?

How many of you are panicking because your nightmare boss is still a nightmare and the end of the year is less than four months away?

How many of you are wondering where on earth you should start?

Let's face it, one of the reasons that your career change is "procrastination central" is that you have no idea where to start.

Imagine beginning 2027 by having everything laid out, including your "strategic staircase" of activity that will actually deliver the change you want to see.

No on is coming to save you. This is all on you. You have done such a great job in masking how you really feel that nobody knows how you really feel.

This is totally do-able.

My 60 minute turbo call is designed to get you moving. It's designed to be the catalyst that you need to get you out of the starting blocks and figuring out what it is that your next step will be.

By the end of the session, you will have a plan that you can start to roll out.

Think of this as the catalyst to launching your career change strategy.

Duration – 60 minutes

After a summer of rest and reflection, many of us return to our routines with fresh perspective and renewed energy.

If the summer months gave you space to think, September is a natural time to follow through - to revisit goals, start something new, or simply shift gears with intention.

The year isn’t over and there’s still plenty of time to make meaningful progress.

27/08/2026

There are 126 days left until the end of the year, this means there is just over a third of the year left.

Have you achieved what you set out to do at the beginning of the year?

I always feel that September is a much better time of year to make 'resolutions'.

September has a different vibe, one of rebirth and renewal.

People are rejuvenated after their summer breaks. The kids are back at school after being around the house for 6 weeks.

The seasons are changing and bit by bit the days are getting shorter.

If you would like to get to the end of 2026 with a resolution under your belt, get in touch.

Who loved playing hide and seek when they were younger?

Who loved the thrill of finding the best hiding spot and staying there until they were the very last one to be found?

This still carries on in the world of work.

People love to stay hidden, they think it wins them the game, just as it did when they were 9 years old.

Children hated getting found out.

These children grow into adults who also hate getting found out.

These adults are your employers, your colleagues, your subordinates.

We are all still playing hide and seeking, trying to stay hidden, trying to stay safe.

It’s time for a new adventure, it’s time for you to step out of your hiding place and to be seen.

25/08/2026

You thought you had another few years left in your role.

You are annoyed because you thought you were safe for a little while longer.

You had somehow managed to survive each reorganisation that had gone before, but not this one.

Somehow they managed to get you this time.

Why couldn’t you have just held on for a few more years?

That would have seen you nicely into retirement.

Now you have to start again, just as you were heading into the autumn of your life.

The scary bit is that you really have no clue where to start. You can’t remember the last time you had an interview, let alone write a CV. It’s been years since you applied for a job.

What about this LinkedIn thing? Everyone is telling you that you need a profile, you signed up ages ago but really have no idea how to use it.

How much should you give away about yourself? You’re not sure if you want all your former colleagues knowing what you are up to.

I get it.

I survived reorganisation after reorganisation when I was working at British Airways, I just knew it was a matter of time before it would be my turn,

Guess what? Eventually, it came round to me.

Yes I was annoyed.

I realised very quickly that what they were doing was setting me free.

I was becoming institutionalised and I knew that I had so many skills and talents that I would take with me onto whatever I decided to do next. I also had so many working years left and I knew that I needed a new challenge, something that I could really get my teeth into, somewhere I could really make a difference.

The same can be true for you.

You can’t change the decision that has been made, just how you respond to it.

When was the last time that you wrote a recommendations on LinkedIn or a Google review?

Here is the format that I use when writing one:

1️⃣ Describe the problem that you were having

2️⃣ Explain why you chose x to help you

3️⃣ Explain how x helped you

4️⃣ Explain 1 or 2 things about the service you received from x that you particularly liked

5️⃣ Explain whether you would recommend x and if so, to whom

I challenge for you to give at least 5 recommendations this week.

This could be to former colleagues, managers, suppliers or even the AirBnB that you stayed in this summer . . . anyone.

Let me know when you have done all 5️⃣ 👇👇👇👇👇
