I hope everyone's first week training back has gone well. What are your goals for this year?

Surgery was a success and now can look forward to recovering and getting stuck into some rehabilitation. Great that on this occasion I am full weight bearing however struggling today with the pain.

Thank you to all who sent messages wishing me luck with the surgery and very excited to be making a return to the tatami.

Give this a "like" if you would like to follow my rehabilitation journey back to competing.

Keep training hard and see you soon.

Our Club and Club members are so busy. Our very own Mark Bermingham has been expanding his knowledge on the all important Katas.

Congratulations to Mark who successfully completed the Kodokan Goshin-Jutsu Course on the 5th January 2025 held at the Royal British Legion, Amersham.

Essential for those who are looking to go through the technical promotion and competitive dan grade promotion routes. However, it will be great to look at the club getting involved in some of the Kata competition.

Don't be worried about accumulating a shido. This can sometimes save you from being thrown for ippon. Just be ready to defend when you hit the floor.

This time of year always presents the opportunity for us to be grateful of what and who we have around us and equally to reflect on the year just gone.

Friday 22nd December 2023 Stafford Judo Club had the privilege to celebrate head coaches Graham Benson 20th Year Coaching at Stafford Judo Club. This is a celebration of the hard work and commitment Graham has put into the club and its players. Graham has continued to epitomise the philosophies left by Jigro Kano rather than just teaching judo has allowed for students to explore their own judo through the education Graham instills in the sessions. This has only been made possible through the discipline shown in Grahams continual development in relation to his understanding of the sport which has been exercised through the undertaking the role of referee alongside Daniel through to the completion of his Msc in Sports Coaching (focused upon constraints led based approaches). This thirst for knowledge is no doubt demonstrated through your technical knowledge and resilience in the completion of your 4th dan technical examination, despite needing a hip replacement (congratulations for this being ratified by the bja).

We are grateful for the day Daniel tricked you into trying the judogi on again. We are grateful for the work you have put in to ensure we have a judo club. We are grateful you continue to push the standards in which you challenge our technical proficiencies.

Wishing you a speedy recovery with your hip replacements and looking forward to having you back on the mat ASAP.

A huge well done to all who took part in the grading today. Also a big thank you to Keith Merrick for coming down and grading both Daniel and David. Daniel has now attained his Technical 3rd Dan after a grueling examination and David has achieved the theory element to his competitive 3rd Dan. Great work both.
