Very popular bits!
Have you tried one, what have you thought of it?

This is the mullen barrel, everyone says this is ported. This is incorrect there is no upwards deviation of the mouthpiece so it cannot be ported.

Though I understand where you're coming from. It has a little tongue relief compared to a lozenge but in reality the primary pressure point is the tongue with these types if bits.

Ultimately theres no nutcracker around the lower jaw or lips with this bit and it is very stable in the mouth.

The added barrel enhances independent movement and clarity if aids, but I tend to find this is only if you move the rein towards the ear and back, depending how rigid the barrel joint is. Some do allow a little back and forward independence but very little compared to say the myler mb04.

Overall they are useful bits. For added acceptance bombers do a barrel 20 and 30 with sweet iron I find a lot if horses prefer.

🐴 Turtle Top bit

I fit a lot of these bits and find them very useful and affective.
The flattened turtle, dome-shaped center link alleviates palate pressure and prevents the mouthpiece from being pushed upwards by the tongue.

It stops the bit from inverting or hinging down harshly onto the tongue and is designed to spread pressure rather than concentrating it.

The unique "Flex" design concept and locking mechanism stop the cannons from over-rotating, giving the horse a highly steady, predictable feel in the mouth.

😎 sprenger dynamic RS
Watch the mouthpiece as it use the rein. You can see that the mouthpiece rotates backwards onto the tongue and sits in a more comfortable, anatomical way.

This spreads pressure around the whole mouth over a larger surface area rather than concentrating it like other lozenge bits.
The lozenge is angled at 45° allowing the distribution of pressure.
They fit anatomically between the tongue and the palate allowing for increased acceptance from the horse.

Note on the video the reduced amount of tongue pressure compared to some double jointed bits!
