✨🧘🏽♀️ From My Practice | Steady & Comfortable
There was a time when I thought progress in yoga meant achieving more challenging postures.
I remember working hard towards inversions and balance poses. Every new pose felt like a small victory, and naturally, I wanted to achieve the next one. When progress was slow, it could also bring disappointment.
Looking back, I realise those experiences were valuable. They taught me patience, focus, perseverance, and how to stay with my breath when things felt challenging.
But over the years, my understanding of yoga has changed.
The physical practice of yoga — asana — is a wonderful tool for maintaining mobility, strength, balance and overall health. It helps us become more aware of our breath, our body and our mind. It teaches us to notice when we are striving, and when we can soften.
Asana is an important part of yoga, but it is only one part.
The goal isn't simply to master more difficult poses. The real value lies in the awareness, steadiness and ease we cultivate through the practice — qualities that can support us both on and off the mat.
These days, I still enjoy practising yoga asana, but my focus is different. I see it as a way to care for my body and health, creating a foundation for a deeper and more meaningful practice.
And perhaps that's why one of the most quoted definitions of asana from the Yoga Sutras is:
“Sthira Sukham Asanam” — a posture that is steady and comfortable.
Not impressive.
Not perfect.
Steady and comfortable. 🧘🏽♀️✨
