The temperature was hot and so was the competition at the British Masters 10000m track championships in Oxford. As the temperature climbed towards 26 degrees it became a war of attrition over 25 laps and I was extremely happy to come away with the M60 gold medal, my first Masters track medal since 2019.

Making it a Hollinshead double Emma took an unexpected gold in the W50 10000m, her debut at this track distance.

It was great to chat to so many masters athletes on the day. A big thank you to everyone connected to .official for putting on the event, to the officials and volunteers (the water and sponges were much needed 🥵). Without you all the event couldn’t have taken place.

Next stop Swansea for the half marathon international representative race, looking forward to another weekend of great camaraderie and competition

Day 2: Race Day

The sun shone, the wind blew and the competition was fierce as the Masters athletes from England, Wales, Northern Ireland and UKAF battled it out in the International Representative 10k race as part of the Bideford 10k.

Some great performances and a wonderful day with Masters athletes. Thank you to everyone who took part, to the team staff from England and Wales and to everyone at for hosting us.

While some of our training group were out racing, Emma and I drove to Leamington Spa to deliver an early morning coached session to the ladies of Regency Runners. Meeting for the session by the Pump Room it was great to see so many groups out running in the park to celebrate International Women’s Day.

Over 2 hours the content focused on the delivery skills of a Run Leader, practical use of energy systems, practicing the art of cornering, and the technique of running against the wind. All this before finishing with a continuous relay, and a resistance band session.

This was the second session with Regency Runners and it was lovely working with the group and having an opportunity to both share knowledge and tips, while answering the groups questions as the session progressed.

As those of you who have had sessions with me in the past, you will be pleased to know my singing as always inspired the runners 🤣

Thank you to Tina James for organising. Next

If your club or group would like a session feel free to get in touch

Congratulations Sunday:

Athletes from the training group swapped their trainers for racing shoes in Staffordshire and Sheffield today. At the Fradley 10k Will Fox smashed his previous best time and recorded a new pb with a time of 39:45. Ann Robinson was 4th W60 in 54:38 and was pleased with her pacing.

Meanwhile over in Sheffield, Keri Lees and Vici Browning were treading the boards in the England Athletics Masters 400m. Both athletes returned home with new PBs in the W50 race with Keri running 67.02, and Vici 68.5. Great running Keri and Vici and now time to tweak the training again before the outdoor track season starts in a month’s time.

Over in Cyprus Claire Ashton was enjoying the warm winter sunshine and undertaking the Paphos 10k and completed in a time of 56 mins. It is great to see Claire back out racing again. I believe the previous day Claire was marshalling at the Happy Valley Park Run in Cyprus. Sounds like a hectic weekend 😀

Congratulations to Mel Deakin for finishing 1st W55 at the Nantwich 10k last Sunday. There was no flooding, no rain, and as Mel said “my feet remained dry” the whole way as Mel stormed around the course in 49.26 mins. This was over 1 minute ahead of the 2nd placed 55.

Well done. Next stop Thorney for the Keith Hall 10k England qualifier

Congratulations to Liz Whitworth in tonight’s Shrewsbury floodlit 5k who ran a new pb of 24.50. As Liz said the old pb had been around long enough 😂
Running in the same race was Mel Deakin who made light work of the blustery conditions by running another great time of 24.16 mins.

Well done Liz and Mel 😃

Nothing like a nice Christmas race and there were several going on this weekend.
Darash Mantri gets the gold medal for the best location with a trip to Portugal to run in the Braga 10k. Trouble is turned out to be colder and wetter than the West Midlands (though not sure it is possible 🤣). Darash made light weather of the undulating course finishing in 43:43.

Elsewhere Lynne Callaghan returned from holiday to run in the Wolverhampton Turkey Trot 5 miler. Lynne finished 4th lady and 1st W50 which earned her the Midland Masters gold medal.

Meanwhile over at Sutton Park in the Birmingham Running Festival, Veronika Foster was undertaking a 5k. Veronika finished 7th lady and 2nd W40 in 25:11.

Well done everyone, enjoy the festive break 🎄🎄
