What a fabulous day in Shrewsbury at the weekend for the Masters 5k international race, held within the Shrewsbury festival of running.

Masters athletes from England, Wales, Northern Ireland and the UKAF battled it out over the circuit and the competition was as hot as the weather.

Congratulations to everyone who raced in the scorching temperatures and thank you for your continued support of the England Athletics masters programme which continues to go from strength to strength. High quality racing in a friendly and supportive atmosphere, the camaraderie between the runners in the different teams is a joy to watch.

A huge thanks also to the team staff from England and Wales who help pull it all together

It’s a Monday well done to Cannock and Stafford’s Mandy Swain who participated for England Age Group Masters at the 5k Representative race in Shrewsbury on Saturday. There were three 5k international races as part of the Shrewsbury Festival of Running with masters athletes from England, Wales Northern Ireland, and the United Kingdom Armed Forces. On what was a very hot sunny day, Mandy finished a brilliant 6th in a time of 23.58.

In the first open race of the day Liz Whitworth finished 16th and was first W40 in 26.15, while Neil Gobsill was 3rd M40 in 20.46.

Well done to everyone who competed on Saturday

The temperature was hot and so was the competition at the British Masters 10000m track championships in Oxford. As the temperature climbed towards 26 degrees it became a war of attrition over 25 laps and I was extremely happy to come away with the M60 gold medal, my first Masters track medal since 2019.

Making it a Hollinshead double Emma took an unexpected gold in the W50 10000m, her debut at this track distance.

It was great to chat to so many masters athletes on the day. A big thank you to everyone connected to .official for putting on the event, to the officials and volunteers (the water and sponges were much needed 🥵). Without you all the event couldn’t have taken place.

Next stop Swansea for the half marathon international representative race, looking forward to another weekend of great camaraderie and competition
