The focus of the club is to offer quality karate training for everyone. Ryu Shotokan Karate boasts National, British and International champions as well as creating England athletes. All our instructors are fully licensed and Enhanced DBS checked. If you are looking for a new hobby, improve your fitness or make new friends in a friendly environment karate is a great sport and can benefit you in so many ways. Training Times

Yesterday, I had the incredible honour of accepting the position of Northern Region Head Kata Coach within the English Karate National Governing Body.

Karate has been part of my life for as long as I can remember. From a young boy stepping onto the dojo floor, it grew into far more than a hobby — it became part of who I am. I’ve been proud to stand within the karate community for nearly 35 years, learning, growing, and giving back wherever I could.

Coaching has never been an easy road. It has meant sacrifices — missed family days, birthdays, and precious time with my children. Those moments are never taken lightly. But milestones like this remind me why the journey has been worth it.

Over the past 14 years, I’ve been privileged to guide many incredible students to National, British, and International success. Now, I’m humbled to have the opportunity to help nurture and develop the next generation of English Karate athletes on a wider stage.

Thank you to the board for placing their trust in me. I’m deeply grateful for the opportunity to serve.

I’m excited for what lies ahead and eager to get to work. I look forward to collaborating with athletes, clubs, coaches, and parents as we build something truly special — strengthening English Karate today and shaping its future for years to come.

So after a 21hr - 900 mile round trip Sensei Mike coached Finley Warwick, Zack Bowen and Elle Meeson.

Some brilliant performances from our small team yesterday.

Zack Bowen carried on his impressive form this year taking away a gold in kata in the age group above his own by an impressive 0.3 clear in a tough group. That now makes him British and Scottish Champion.

Next stop for Zack and Elle is World Championship in 🇸🇪
