CHAMPIONIES🏆 we have done it! we have won the Stafford & district division 2 league title with a game to spare. After Thursday’s heartache in the tight divisional cup loss, yesterday saw the star face close neighbours Wildwood FC. A win would see the star not only clinch promotion but seal the league title.

The star started well controlling play and after 10 minutes a Ryan Taylor free kick powered through the wildwood back line and found the net. Great start for the star 1-0.

Plenty of chances followed as the star controlled the first half and looked to add to their lead. On the stroke of half time a Joel O’ Connor strike forced the wildwood keeper to make a good save with Dan Smith following in the rebound with superbly placed header 2-0.

The second half commenced just like the first as the star took a 3 goal advance on the 55th minute. A Dan smith assist saw tay smash near post between the sticks, his second goal of game, outstanding strike 3-0.

Second half substitute Robson Flude extended the star lead with a fully deserved well composed finish, with a Cam Smith assist 4-0.

The star were soon awarded a penalty after Matt smith was fouled within the box. Andy Dring stepped up to take the score line to a 5-0 lead.

Phenomenal performance after a Thursday night cup defeat with all starting 11 and substitutes contributing to this massive win which sees the star taste silverware for the first time after being together for only 2 seasons. We would like to thank wildwood fc for a great atmosphere within the game and after at the wood.

CHAMPIONS OLE OLE OLE🤩

Today saw us in a highly competitive game in the sentinel cup against Staffordshire knot from Biddulph. The star we’re looking for a bounce back after last week’s last minute heartbreak in the J&F transport shield.

The first 20 minute period saw a couple of half chances for both sides but majority of the possession was contested in the middle of the park. The star did eventually take the lead however after a Ryan Taylor corner found the head of Liam Doolan who powered into the back of the net. 1-0

It didn’t take the knot long to equalise as a penalty was conceded. Josh pace did save the original penalty but was just short of the follow up. Not long after the equaliser the knot then caught the star with a long ball over the top and the star found themselves going into the first half a goal down. 1-2

The second half saw the star take more control of the game with us seeing an equaliser eventually with a good phase of passing play resulting in Aiden edge pushing on and crossing for top goal scorer Steve Mckiernan who chested and placed it onto the bottom corner well. Game on 2-2

With the last minutes of the game the star continued to push for the winner and the pressure eventually got the best of the knot as an Aiden edge throw found Dan smith on the edge of the box who struck well and found the bottom left corner. Knee slides galore at western downs 3-2.

All the best for the rest of the season to Staffordshire knot who were a good bunch of lads and conducted themselves well throughout. This win sees the star progress into the next round of the Sunday sentinel cup.

MOTM🏆
A tough one to call with everyone putting in a massive shift today but this week’s man of the match goes to right back Aiden edge. Constantly winning his personal battles as well as contributing to 2 of the 3 star goals Edgey thoroughly deserves todays award, well done lad UTS🌟

The Star suffer last-minute heartbreak as Woolpack win 3-2 in the dying seconds of the match. It was a great performance from The Star in baltic conditions as the pitch was tough to play on. We took the lead early on as a great build up through the midfield all the way forward saw Cam Smith switch the ball over to the right finding Robson Flude who Chested it down and pulled a ball back across to the edge of the box where Steve McKiernan fired it into the bottom left corner brilliantly. Woolpack got an equaliser not too long after as a good ball from a corner found their target-man who headed it in well. We then got the next goal in the game after what was a very back and forth first half as another good build up saw some great combination play leading to Cam Smith pulling the ball across the box finding Robson Flude at the back post who was there to finish. Before half time Woolpack dispossessed us in our half and threaded through their forward who rounded our keeper and finished making it 2-2 at Half time. The second half was a more defensive version of The Star as we were under pressure for a lot of the half but defended brilliantly, and we also had chances to try to win the game ourselves, one being Dan Smith as a quick throw in from us found its way across to Dan who brilliantly sat two players down with some great feet but their keeper rushed out and made a great save. Just before Full-time Woolpack got a winner as we cleared an incoming corner it found a Woolpack player on the edge who headed it to the back post where they were there to head it home and progress to the next round. A really good game this and even though we unfortunately missed out on the next round, we are so proud of this team performance proving how good this team can and could be. We wish Woolpack all the best for the season!
MOTM- Dan Smith, could’ve gone to a lot of lads as everyone played really well today but Dan was everywhere today and really battled brilliantly. Special mentions to Olly Wilson who did a great job in goal today making some great saves and to Robson who got an assist and a goal and played brilliantly today.

Full time⚽️
Today’s game saw us playing away at Hednesford park against Samson Blewitt FC. We went into the game at the top of the table looking to extend the lead.

Within the first two minutes of play the star took the lead with a good passage of play. A great through ball from Ollie Wilson found Steve Mckiernan who squared for Cam Smith to finish well 1-0

The majority of the first half saw the star creating chances and a second goal was soon scored as a handball was given and a penalty was awarded. After 5 minutes of the opposition arguing and trying to scuff up the spot Steve Mckiernan stepped up to smash down the middle. Trademark Steve 2-0.

The lads went into half time with a comfortable 2 goal lead. This soon changed as within the first couple of minutes of the second half a ball straight through the middle from the opposition saw Liam Doolan taking out Brocton Fc’s Jake Thomas. last man Doolan saw red no complaints could be made.

10 minutes later a dubious free kick was conceded on the edge of the box. This was well taken with the ball being curled into the near corner great free kick 2-1.

The game progressed with the star defending valiantly. However unfortunately Samson blewitt scored an equaliser with 15 minutes to go after pressure finally got the best of us.

The star did have another chance blocked off the line from a Robson Flude thunderous strike with a matter of minutes left of the game. Time ran out and a draw away from home was the outcome for the boys. Full credit to every player who put absolutely 100% in to get something out of the game 2-2 FT. Best of luck to Samson Blewitt for the rest of the season.

MOTM- Stand in left back Ollie Wilson gets man of the match this week. Solid in defence and always threatening down the line mustard performance. a lot of good performances this week but Wils pips it well done UTS🩶

Todays game saw us at home against top of the league Hixon FC in a second against first tie.

After an evenly first 30 minutes star took the lead after a good star passing phase seeing Ryan Taylor squaring to Steve Mckiernan for an easy finish 1-0.

It wasn’t long into the second half star doubled the lead when Aiden edge delivered a perfect cross straight onto the head of Steve Mckiernan who expertly directed his header into the far corner 2-0.

A missed header and defensive mix up lead to Hixon capitalising to make it 2-1.

Substitutes were made with the star boys running themselves into the ground, we quickly replied after another defensive mix up from the opposition this time seeing another Steve Mckiernan goal, trivela into the bottom corner, he does love an outside of the boot shot 3-1.

The star then controlled the game and scored a 4th after a corner was flicked on by always consistent Liam Doolan found the feet of Steve Blundell who’s first shot was blocked only for him to head well into the net 4-1.

As the game was winding down the star were awarded a free kick close to the corner flag after a brilliant display of skill from substitute matty smith. Joel O’ Connor delivered which found the top far corner with Liam doolan also putting it back into the corner, a bit of a dispute who got the goal but all in good spirits and the 5-1 win saw the star boys sitting top of the league by a point after the result.

MOTM- After a two game goal drought mr bags man and skipper Steve Mckiernan deserves it today supplying the star with a hat trick. Well done stevie, couple of Stella’s deserved, roll on next week away to Samson blewitt UTS🩶

The boys returned to league action today in the ‘highfields’ derby against wildwood FC. The star started in good fashion, quickly taking the lead after Steve Mckiernan turned his defender inside out and crossed the ball for Steve Blundell to cooly finish 1-0

A half of long ball from both teams proceeded with both having chances, wildwood hitting the bar a couple of times. We had a big chance to go 2-0 up but cam smiths shot was blocked of the line for a corner. From the corner a quick counter attack saw wildwood equalise as their winger burst through and passed it into the net 1-1.

A calming half time team talk was needed but well listened to as eventually we retook the lead. Robson Flude attacked down the line and picked out a perfect cross for Ryan Taylor to expertly head past the keeper 2-1.

We added a third goal coming from a Ryan Taylor corner which found the head of centre back Liam doolan who powered his header into the top corner which cemented the win 3-1.

Good luck to wildwood fc for the rest of the season, great bunch of lads who always provide us with a tough game.

MOTM- Stand in keeper Josh Whitton gets the man of the match this week. A huge save towards the end keeping us 3-1 up with calmness on the ball throughout the game well done! UTFS

The Star had a much changed team today with a lot of lads unavailable for different reasons. With it being a friendly we had a couple lads in to help out and every single player was top today. The Star dominated from start to finish and looked the much better side without really ever getting out of 2nd gear. Amasal were trying to make the game as dirty and physical as possible and the lads did well to keep going and just letting our football do the talking. A good run out for everyone! And a very very warm welcome back for Andy Dring who is on his route to full recovery after he was injured around this time last year, great to see him back in a Star shirt!
MOTM- Morgan Payne, brought in to help us out and also get some minutes in his legs as he is coming back from injury himself. Really proved his class today scoring 4 goals (one of which he ran past 4 players and the keeper from our own half) and grabbing an assist and just generally causing problems all game. We hope he is feeling fit and ready to push on again for what could be another fantastic season for Brocton. UTS!🌟
