Long irons don’t have to be intimidating!

Here are 3 tips to help you strike them better:

1. Don’t try and hit your long irons high. Trust the club’s loft and focus on making a solid strike. ⛳️

2. Stay committed through the shot! ⛳️

3. Make a smooth controlled swing! ⛳️

Better contact comes from good rhythm and good contact, not extra effort!

The lower, penetrating flight you see from great players comes from quality contact—not trying to force the ball into the air.

Want to hit your chip shots closer? 💭

Practice controlling your landing spot! ✅

So many times during in person and online lessons, students focus too much on the finishing point (normally the flag) and not enough on where they are trying to land the ball.

Ultimately, this is the only thing we can control and after that it depends on the trajectory of the shot and the lie of the land how much or little it rolls out.

A drill I like to do, and give to my students, is to chip from a spot near the practice green and try to land the ball in the hole.

This teaches the student to focus on where to land the ball and the hole being a small target makes it more challenging than when out on the course.
