🏏What a way to finish the season for our Cambridgeshire Cricket CAG U13 Boys!💪

The boys headed to Taunton for the final week of the season, and after a summer of sunshine and record-breaking temperatures, it was perhaps fitting that rain stopped play just 10 minutes into the first match! 🌧️😂

Thankfully, it was only a shower and the rest of the week went largely uninterrupted.

Five games in five days against a real mix of opposition, increasingly tired legs and definitely deteriorating levels of sleep… 😴 But the boys kept going and did themselves incredibly proud:

🏆 3 wins from 5 matches
🥈 2nd overall in their group
💪 A hard-fought week against some excellent opposition

Congratulations to Wiltshire, who topped the group and beat us in a closely fought match on the main pitch on Thursday.

4th / 5th Aug - BU18 game against Suffolk Harley Edmonds was the standout bowler taking 7 wickets across the 2 days.
4th Aug - GU18 vs. Norfolk - Jess McCrum took her second ‘Fifer’ of the season with a great 5-40 in 8.3 overs
5th Aug - GU13 vs. Essex in Game 1 - Julia Saklatvala took 2-11 from 4 overs & in Game 2 - Aditi Thandu had a great T20 game taking 4-17 in 4 overs
6th Aug - GU18 vs. Lincolnshire in Game 1 Abi Davis took 4-15 from 4 overs & in Game 2 Diya Menon took 3-17 from 4 overs.

🏏MCCF Hub Matches🏏

On Wednesday our 4 MCCF Hubs played at Mildenhall Cricket Club, against their Norfolk counterparts.

The day started with the girls 8-a-side T20 matches, which were interrupted by some much needed rain in the first hour, but thankfully did not impact the length of the matches.

👧Girls👧
U13's: Norfolk batted first, and lost 4 very quick wickets thanks to Kitty's spell of 3 for 26 off her 4 overs. Lily (33*) and Molly (34*) steadied the ship for Norfolk and ended the 20 overs on 125-5.
Cambridgeshire also lost some early wickets, with Tenuli taking 3 for 7 off 3 overs. Santushi (15) and Kitty (14) tried hard to guide their team to the target, playing some brilliant shots, but unfortunately fell short, finishing the innings on 63-3.

U16's: Norfolk also batted first on the main pitch, and they had a good start. Poppy scored 46*, out of a total of 139-3. Daisy was the pick of the Cambridgeshire bowlers, taking 1 for 13 in her spell.
The Cambridgeshire batters struggled a little against, a very strong Norfolk bowling attack, which included figures of 2 for 5 for Scarlett, and some very good fielding.

In the afternoon it was the boys turn, playing 11-a-side, 30 over matches.

👱Boys👱
U13's: Cambridgeshire batted first, with Andreou scoring 24, supporting his team to reach a total of 105-8. Pailes was the pick of the Norfolk bowlers, taking 2 for 12.
In the 2nd innings, W.Arkwright was the only Cambridgeshire bowler to make a breakthrough, after the Norfolk openers, Harrod and Zeb, both retired on 33*. Norfolk reached the target after 16 overs.

U15's: Cambridgeshire took to the field first, with a high standard of fielding on display. Norfolk's batters were strong with Henry retiring on 51* and Noah being run out on 49. William took 2 important wickets for only 14 runs in his spell.
Norfolk's opener, James Mixer, bowled the first over in the 2nd innings, which proved destructive to Cambridgeshire's run chase. He bowled a triple wicket maiden, and finished his spell on 3 for 8 off 4. Cambridgeshire's Nathanael scored 35 in a great attempt to keep his team in contention, but it was not to be, and they were bowled out 87.

🏆Champions crowned!

What a fantastic day of girls’ cricket in Cambridgeshire! 💙🏏 On Sunday 2nd August, Cambourne Cricket played host to our U13 & U16 Girls’ Cup Finals, showcasing some outstanding talent, competitive cricket and brilliant team spirit.

⭐️U13 Cup Final
Cambourne CC vs. City of Cambridge CC

After winning the toss & choosing to field, Cambourne dismissed City of Cambridge for 64 in 10 overs, with Anna Bingham starring with 3 wickets. Teja Simkute top-scored for City of Cambridge with 23 💪

Cambourne successfully chased the target, losing just four wickets, with Nakshtra Deorankar leading the way with 21, securing the U13 Cup title! 🔥

⭐️U16 Cup Final
Saffron Walden Cricket Club CC vs. 🌼 Thriplow Cricket Club 🌼

Batting first, Saffron Walden posted an impressive 131-5, with Alia Martin top-scoring with 29 👏

Thriplow’s reply looked in trouble at 47-5, but a superb 67-run partnership between Lina Opel (29) and Marianne Gouliouris (23) brought the game to life. Just when the momentum appeared to be shifting, Saffron Walden’s Jasmine Bartlett returned to claim both set batters in the penultimate over, finishing with outstanding figures of 4-18 to seal a thrilling 13-run victory for Saffron Walden 💥

⭐️ U13 Plate Final
Unfortunately, the U13 Plate Final could not be played due to a concession, with Chippenham Cricket Club🏏 awarded the Plate title.

A huge thank you to Cambourne Cricket Club for hosting an excellent Finals Day, and to our match officials Neil Bingham, Vic Hopkins and Robin Anthony from the Cambs & Hunts Association of Cricket Officials for their support throughout the day.
