🏆 Fresh Lures Cup 2026 – Season Closing Event 🏆
Last weekend, as we do every year, we held the Fresh Lures Cup, our annual event marking the end of the Area Trout season in England and the official conclusion of our 4th season of Area Trout Fishing.
The Fresh Lures Cup is a mixed-format competition where anglers can use both soft baits and hard lures. Every year, this event focuses on introducing the younger generation of anglers to the exciting catch-and-release discipline of Area Trout Fishing.
Area Trout Club & League England is proud to be the first established Area Trout Fishing club in England, helping to promote and develop this unique discipline within the UK angling community. Originating in Japan, Area Trout Fishing has become extremely popular throughout Europe and many other countries around the world. Through the efforts of our club, more anglers continue to discover and enjoy this exciting sport every year.
As tradition dictates, we began the day with a competition for the children, followed later by the adults’ competition. Participants were allowed to use any lures during the event.
Despite the poor weather forecast and persistent rain, the turnout was fantastic, with 19 young anglers taking part. The weather certainly didn’t stop us from enjoying a great day by the lake.
The day began with the children’s competition, featuring anglers of various ages, with our youngest participant being just four years old. The competition consisted of four 20-minute rounds, and despite the challenging conditions, the young anglers landed an impressive 78 trout in total.
It is always amazing to see the excitement, adrenaline, and smiles that every fish brings to these young anglers. Everyone who took part is a winner, but as with any competition, the top performers were determined.
We would like to warmly congratulate our top three young anglers:
🥇 1st Place – Lukas Augusta (Age 10)
🥈 2nd Place – Orestas Dauksa (Age 11)
🥉 3rd Place – Faustas Opalko (Age 10)
The adults’ competition followed, consisting of six rounds. It was especially great to see new faces joining us, including anglers who were completely new to the Area Trout discipline. We hope they enjoyed the experience and will join us again in the future.
The adult anglers landed a total of 95 trout, and the winners were:

A special thank you goes to Building Bridges Project for their continued support, and to Martynas and Donatas for attending the event and generously sharing their knowledge and experience. As Angling Trust Lead Coaches, they helped newcomers discover the Area Trout discipline, offered valuable advice to the children, and shared plenty of useful information with everyone. It is always a pleasure to have them with us, as there is so much to learn from their experience.
