Spaxton 2s victorious in the heat

Spaxton this week went to the picturesque East Huntspill Cricket in what was perfect weather. Following captain Passmore’s scouting of the opposition behind a tree he set up what was a strong looking team with Gunstone, the Hayman brothers joining Crocket in the 11. With the game being streamed on YouTube there was a great opportunity for the 2s to show off their skills.

For the first time this year the captain went out to the toss on his own, was rewarded with a win and put the East Hunspill team into bat. With Passmore (0-11) opening with K.Hayman (4-20) they not only kept the runs down but also picked up the opening wickets. At the first bowling change 23/3 off 10 overs. Whilst runs were being kept down there was positive batting from Patel (26) and enabled the runs to tick over. Hayman did however get his man when triggering him for LBW to end his decent knock.

Next to join Hayman in the attack was R.Brown (3-13) and he continued in not only keeping the score low but also managed to continue in grabbing a few wickets too. With the wickets starting to fall and the runs being kept tight, this gave Passmore opportunity to rotate the bowling, firstly with C.Ching (1-2) who bowled beautifully to go for just 2 extras in 3 overs whilst picking up a wicket for career best figures.

Jones (1-6) can in for a cameo couple of overs but wasn’t to leave empty handed by picking up a wicket in his first over. Finally introduced into the attack was L.Brown (1-5) at just 12 years bowled beautifully and picked up the final East Huntspill wicket and left them all out for 61.

Special mention to C.Hayman who achieved a 2s record of completing 4 catches in just one innings. This was needed as unfortunately as clearly fielders like P.Ching had more chance of catching a cold in the hot weather. There was a spectacular dive from the Passmore to catch the ball in the within ring, this was great other than the ball had already gone for 4 at that point.

Following a quick changeover P.Ching (1) sporting a duck hat was joined with C.Hayman (26). Unfortunately Ching followed his recent form and got a freak wicket that hit his foot and rolled onto the stumps to his dismay.

Next to join Hayman was Carr (13) and together with Hayman they took the game away with attacking shots they put on 26 runs which put the 2s into a decent position. With 33 on the board Hayman was caught well on the boundary which then introduced Crockett (4) and after a first ball boundary, spirits were high. Unfortunately this was not to be when he was undone by a swing of the bat that was in a different postcode to where the ball was.

Jones (4no) was next to join and did a great job in holding the other end up whilst Carr took the 2s ever closer to the total. However with just 9 runs to go he was undone with a well bowled ball from Greenslade for her first ever adult wicket.

Gunstone (12no) then came in and immediately took Spaxton over the line with 3 fours in 3 balls faced giving the 2s their first victory of the season.

Not only was this their first victory but also the entire match was made fun by both sides with continued banter throughout the game. We look forward to not only seeing East Huntspill back at the home ground later this season but also inviting our ladies team for a game too.
