D to D measurements.
How often do you see people asking for a saddle, with a specific D to D measurement?
Did you know... this is irrelevant to the fit of the saddle?
Yup. That's right. IRRELEVANT.
Why? The width of a saddle is determined by the angle of the head of the tree. (More about this on another post).

The D rings are not set in any particular place. They're not structural, and they can literally be anywhere at the front. The saddle pictured, for example, has two sets.
If the D rings were to be set, for example, just one centimetre lower, this would change the 'd to d' measurement massively... yet the angle of the tree (and therefore the width) would be unchanged.

It really isn't an accurate way to measure the width of a saddle - that is only truly measurable by the angle.

And then we have to think about the length of points too as that will affect how saddles sit... but again that's a whole separate post.
