⚽ Pex Hill Atletico 1-3 Southport U13s ⚽️

The girls travelled over to Widnes for an away fixture against a Pex Hill side who had made an excellent start to the season. With Southport still undefeated, everything was set for a competitive encounter.
The opening exchanges certainly lived up to expectations, with the home side coming flying out of the blocks. Pex Hill moved the ball around brilliantly, putting Southport under immense pressure and making it difficult for the girls to get out of their own half. The defence and Alexa stood strong, but in truth, Southport were fortunate not to find themselves behind.
To their credit, the girls gradually grew into the game and midway through the first half, they took the lead. Some lovely build-up play through the middle found Sophie with space to attack down the right channel. The ball was played back to Rebekah and she delivered a fizzing, low cross across the box, where Phoebe arrived at the back post to finish first time.
0–1 Southport
Southport's second goal came from a brilliant piece of play. Becca claimed her second assist of the day with a pin-point through ball to Sophie, who battled brilliantly between two defenders before finding herself one-on-one with the goalkeeper. The ball ricocheted between the two before falling kindly back to the striker, who made no mistake in finishing into the empty net.
0–2 Southport
Half Time: Pex Hill Atletico 0–2 Southport U13s
The coaches reminded the girls to be ready for another strong start from the home side, and Pex Hill certainly delivered on that front. However, Southport stood firm and began to grow into the second half superbly. What had started as a difficult afternoon was now turning into a brilliant, competitive game of football.
Southport's third goal, and Sophie's second of the afternoon, was a moment of real quality. Finding herself with space on the edge of the box, Sophie produced a fantastic finish into the bottom corner to give the away side some breathing space.
0–3 Southport
Pex Hill continued to push forward and threaten Alexa's goal. Their persistence eventually paid off as they were awarded a penalty, giving them the opportunity to get back into the game. Alexa, however, had other ideas! Showing fantastic composure, she produced an excellent low save with her feet to keep the home side at bay.
Pex Hill did manage to find the net late on, but the goal probably came too late to cause Southport too much concern, as the girls saw out the remaining minutes to secure another fantastic victory.

Match Thoughts
In truth, Pex Hill probably deserved more from the game and played some excellent football. However, the Southport girls deserve huge credit for their perseverance, resilience, game management and, when the opportunities came, their killer instinct in front of goal.
To come away from a difficult away fixture with all three points is a fantastic achievement and another example of the character within this group.
A brilliant start to the season continues! 💪⚽
