A busy (& fairly bouncy) couple of outings this week! 🌊

🚣🏻 On Weds, Andy Mil coxed a quad of Ian, Helen, Tracey & James. Meanwhile VG attempted to steer the Prof accompanied by Liz & Wendy.

🚣🏻 Today we looked worryingly like a rowing club with 4 (count ‘em!) boats out. James in the 1x, Martin & Andy Mil in the 2x, Andy Mar, Gillian & Liz in the Prof, & VG coxing a 4x+ with Ian, Tracy, Debs & Luke. Great fun, especially a racy little piece at the end!

Breezy Sunday morning but we made it out before the gusts whipped up too much 😄

🚣🏻 Huge thanks to Ian for coxing a “beginners” 8+. We welcomed JG & Gillian to sweep in a controlled row that went really well. Crew of Liz, Andy O (welcome back!), JG, Nic, VG, Gillian, Helen & Marto. Thanks to everyone for patience & not going too fast!

While the rest of us had a lie in yesterday, top comp squad Helen & James headed off to Trentham Boat Club for Trentham Regatta.

An early start did not affect our ace double - they marched through the semi & into the final, where they beat Bradford to win their first regatta title! 🥳🏆 Huge congratulations to our newest champs, we’re all so chuffed! 🥇

A beautiful morning on the Marine Lake 😎 All the hard yards in winter are worth it when it’s like this.

🚣🏻 Martin coxed a Southport Six of Nick, Nic, Tracy, Liz, Ian & Andy Mi (new code due to too many Andy Ms 😂) - lots of drills & running pretty well by the end.

🚣🏻 VG, Andy Ma & Gillian had a Prof session featuring plenty of steady-state & a few technique recaps. Boat ran nicely & Gillian has graduated from her Prof L-plates!

Great to welcome Scull Tech UK to SRC this weekend. One of our favourite quads was a victim of Storm Dave, taking some fairly deep blows while racked.

One went entirely through the hull, which we thought would probably let some water in, so a professional repair job it is! Work is well underway on day 2 now, and we should have the boat back on the lake soon. 👏

Huge congratulations to Martin, Ian, Helen & James who all competed at Lancaster John O Gaunt Rowing Club’s City of Lancaster Regatta today!

Although no silverware this time, we’re really chuffed to have had SRC representation in Men’s Masters double, Mixed Masters double & Men’s single categories. Well done all! 💪🏼

💁🏻‍♀️ A moment here for Helen, who today became the FIRST EVER woman to represent Southport RC competitively in her FIRST EVER competition. Helen joined the club after completing our Learn to Row programme 3 years ago. She’s now a club stalwart & repping the black & gold on the circuit. Awesome achievement 👏👏👏 Proud!

This week’s rows! Glorious weather has been enjoyed by all.

🚣🏻 On Wednesday we rowed the 8+ as our trademark 7+, coxed by Judith & working hard to find our rhythm!

🚣🏻 Today, Martin coxed another trademark 7+, again running through plenty of drills to find our way around the boat. Meanwhile, VG, Gillian & Young JG took the Prof for a spin & had a great row, practising half pressure finishes & turning the boat around. Good job by our two learners! 💪🏼

🚣🏻 Few pics from recent outings! Last Sunday we had an 8+ crew plus the Prof in action, with Gillian completing her second L2R session.

🚣🏻 And today, we took out a coxed quad (VG cox with Ian, Liz, Deb and Martin) and the Prof (Andy M, Gillian and Nick) rowing as a triple. Then a cheeky extra row out for Vicki and Nick to give hopeful new member Luke a leg-stretch in the Prof!

Good jobs all round. Gillian going great on L2R and Luke should be in a boat regularly very soon!
