If you’re new to squats, especially barbell back squats, it can be tricky to know if you’re getting deep enough to maximise results
Depth should be thighs parallel with the floor or hips level/just below the knees (for us average Joes, competitors and athletes tend to go arse to grass)
But it can be difficult to judge if you’re getting that deep, so a good way to know you’re hitting the correct depth and building that strength in the optimal range of movement is to use a bench or box.
When sat your thighs should be level with knees or parallel with the floor, then just tap the bench with your bum and stand back up. Over time you can remove the bench and you will have trained your body and your awareness to hit the right depth.
