Well done to Tia today who lead the junior girls long jump at Essex Schools from the 1st round until the very last jump of the competition, where another competitor outjumped her.

Tia I’m very proud of how you conducted yourself today.

I know your highlight was that you managed to get a burger 🍔 😂

For me it was nice to see how gracious you were in having victory taken from you and that you actually were happy for the person that won having helped them, when they were struggling/upset.

Exciting times recently started working with a couple of lads who are very fast and will be representing Southend at the Essex Schools champs.

Some great sessions today from my athletes, in view of conditions it was primarily stabilisation, S&C and speed based.

Well done Yas and Clara you worked well with each other, as did Seif and Thomas - with Seif hitting some new top speeds. Poppy with some solid technical improvements in her running.

Rugby lad developing speed, agility, stabilisaton and dynamics stretches to loosen hips.

Last athlete of the day doing great working on technical sprinting to transfer to the long jump runway, drills improving along with technical understanding.

Well done all - thanks to all parents/guardians for supporting your children 🏆

Speed and S&C based session with a young athlete, followed by school session also working on sprints and lastly a 1:1 hurdle/sprint session working on 1st hurdle attack.

Busy times … good luck to everyone who has league matches, county schools, boroughs, ISA’s and other athletics events upcoming.

Please remember to try get some rest and active recovery in, which is equally as important.

Well done to Tia today in the u16 girls long jump and triple jump at Eastern champs.

Bronze in long jump 1 cm short of silver and silver in the triple jump with a slight pb 🏆

An exceptionally hot day at Eastern Athletics champs

Some walked away with pb’s and medals, but those that didn’t all learnt from the experience.

Sometimes we learn more from the things that don’t go quite to plan than those that did.

The fact people walked away with dignity and pride makes you all champions in life. Our journey continues …

Some great 1:1 sessions the last few days: long jump, shot, discus, hurdles, sprints and high jump, plus a bit of 800 prep.

Also some decent performances in the jumps camps yesterday.

Athletes all working hard in the sunshine, plenty of breaks and staying hydrated.

I was asked do I get bored coaching by a young athlete, I guess I’m one of the fortunate coaches who gets to see athletes from different sports and disciplines - so it never really gets boring as the training and coaching is always varied to challenge both me and the athletes.

Off to Cambridge this weekend - good luck to all those competing in the Eastern champs. 🏆
