A great subject to start the day… the colour and shape of your 💩 What can your stool tell you about your gut health? Quite a lot ❗️
The Bristol Stool Chart (see 2nd slide) looks at stool shape and consistency, giving useful clues about bowel transit time. Types:
1–2 may suggest slower transit or constipation,
3–4 are generally considered ideal, while
6–7 can indicate faster transit or diarrhoea.
Consistency is only part of the picture though. Stool colour is important too. Changes in colour may reflect what you’ve eaten or supplements you’re taking, but they can also provide information about bile flow, digestion, absorption, inflammation, infection or bleeding. 🩸
Your stool shouldn’t be used to diagnose a condition on its own, but paying attention to colour, consistency, frequency and changes over time can provide valuable information about digestive health.
‼️Persistent unexplained changes, blood in the stool, or black/tarry or very pale stools should always be discussed with a healthcare professional.
