Southampton seniors were on the road again this time with a visit to the formidable Portsmouth Golf Club. The weather was perfect and the course was in great condition. With several players new to the course it was always going to be difficult for the visitors.

The match was played in good spirit but in the end home advantage told and Portsmouth ran out convincing winners by 6 matches to 0.

In spite of this everyone agreed that it was good day out and after match chat and food was enjoyed by all.

Next up for Southampton seniors was another home game this time against Meyrick Park from Bournemouth. The weather for this match was perfect unlike the away fixture was threatened by rain and thunder.

The course was playing well and the greens were good and everyone enjoyed a great match played in good spirit by both teams. Home advantage however told in the end Southampton ran out winners by 4 matches to 2. This resulted in an overall aggregate win for the Home team.

The after match food was excellent as usual and the friendly atmosphere was great. Next year's encounters are now something to look forward to.

Southampton seniors were back at the Muni to face Cams Hall from Fareham.

The weather was perfect after all the heat and this made for a more enjoyable match. The ground conditions were still hard and bouncy but this did not detract from a great match being played out.

The outcome was a 4-2 win for the home team and this made it an overall aggregate of 6-6. Every agreed this was a fair result. The after match food was excellent as usual from the Muni chef and staff. Next years matches will be something to look forward to for all players.

Southampton seniors road trip continued with a visit to Christchurch. The journey was made more difficult due to road closures caused by wildfire. The match was played in very hot weather and the course was showing signs of the drought conditions. The greens however were very good as usual.
The players fought the course and the heat in fine style and the eventual outcome was a very good 3-3 draw. After the match everyone was happy to back in the cool of the clubhouse and enjoyed the excellent food.
The return match in September will hopefully be played in cooler weather.

Southampton seniors travelled to Bournemouth last week to play Queens Park in the return match. The weather was once again very warm but this did not deter the players from playing an exciting set of games.

The course was very dry and the balls were travelling a long way not always where required. The greens however were very good and eventually the close faught games resulted in a tied match with 2 and half points each.

Although there was no food after the games everyone enjoyed some good chat and drinks. The outcome of both matches was a win for Southampton on aggregate meaning they won back the trophy.

Southampton Golf Club – Summer Salad Texas Scramble Announcement

Last Saturday saw the return of one of the most anticipated events in our calendar — the 2026 Summer Salad Texas Scramble. With 23 teams taking on the four‑man scramble format, the course was buzzing from the moment the sh***un sounded.

The scoring was nothing short of spectacular. Our winning team produced a gross 13‑under‑par, boosted by five shots on top — an unbelievable performance.
A huge congratulations to Byron Thomas, Geoff Thomas, Drew Gibson, and Nick Gibson for an outstanding display of teamwork and ball‑striking.

Following the scramble, we hosted the long‑standing Patient Putter Competition — 18 holes on the practice green, with the top eight progressing to the knockouts.
This year’s champion: Aaron Giles.
Rumour has it he saved every single putt for this competition, because during the scramble he couldn’t hole a thing — at one stage his team even considered leaving him in the clubhouse after nine 🤣

It was a tremendous day from start to finish.
A heartfelt thank you to Southampton City Council for supporting our sh***un starts, and to The Muni Bar & Restaurant for serving a fantastic BBQ on the patio. Every member of Southampton Golf Club truly appreciates everything you do for us. 👏👏👏

Club Match reports

Evening Ladies & Gents

This past week we had two club matches.

The first was against Portsmouth Gc on Friday for the Myers-Reece cup. A annual greensomes match.

This was only the second time we have played for the cup. The first being last year where we lost to Portsmouth so we needed our revenge.

And revenge we got bringing the cup home to SGC winning 4-2

Big shout out to Martin jones & Oakley Adams, 4dn with four to play winning the last four to get a vital half Point.

Was a cracking day with some fantastic company and a few jars were shared on the patio. Already looking forward to next year.

On Saturday we took on Wickham park at home in the SHGL.

We are currently sitting second in the league 11pts behind Chichester so every point counts.

Unfortunately we wasn’t at our best and could only manage a draw 3-3 but we must take the positives. Still unbeaten at home and although it will be tough there are plenty of points to play for as its just passed the half way point of the season.

Thanks to all who took part and gave up their time. A big thank to Eugene and his staff for the hospitality as always. 👏👏🍔
