POWERbreathe - Official site POWERbreathe Inspiratory Muscle Training. As you breathe in through POWERbreathe, you breathe in against an adjustable, calibrated resistance.

Breath by breath, our world leading, clinically proven, drug-free respiratory muscle training devices help you to breathe better for health, wellness, sport, and performing arts. POWERbreathe works closely with experts in breathing physiology from around the globe and has developed a range of cutting edge breathing training, monitoring and testing devices. POWERbreathe uses the same principals as resistance training and is often referred to as “dumbbells for your diaphragm”. This makes your inspiratory muscles work harder. This concept of training is called Inspiratory Muscle Training or IMT. POWERbreathe training has been proven to improve sports performance, improve fitness and reduce breathlessness.

What can 5-6 weeks of breathing muscle training change? 🫁

Participants completed resistance IMT at 70% of daily maximal inspiratory pressure, with sessions consisting of 30 breaths.

Following the intervention, researchers reported significant increases in:
💨 Inspiratory muscle strength (S-Index)
💨 Peak Inspiratory Flow
🫁 Diaphragm thickness

The study also found a 7.63% improvement in peak power among female participants!

A fascinating look at how respiratory muscle adaptations may extend beyond breathing strength alone.

Back to breathing, back to basics: your diaphragm is a muscle 🫁

And just like other muscles, research suggests it can adapt in response to progressive resistance training.

In a recent study of 28 healthy adults, 5-6 weeks of Inspiratory Muscle Training (IMT) was associated with a significant increase in diaphragm thickness, alongside improvements in inspiratory muscle performance.

Sometimes understanding breathing starts with remembering the basics: the muscles that power it can be trained. The study used the POWERbreathe K5 for resistance IMT, training and testing.

POWERbreathe at ERS 2026 🫁 It’s already been a busy few days in Barcelona!

Over the weekend, POWERbreathe featured as part of the Pulmonary Rehabilitation workshop, putting respiratory muscle training into practice.

Today, we’re looking forward to hearing from Kris Bahadur, who’ll be presenting “Difference in inspiratory muscle training breaths between healthy and breathing pattern disordered participants.”

You may recognise Kris from the Better Breathing Institute, where he joined Professor John Dickinson earlier this year to explore breathing patterns, assessment and training.

More insights from to come. 💙

30 breaths. That’s it 🫁

Dr Sabrina Brar shares how she trains her breathing with Inspiratory Muscle Training (IMT), and what the research says about building strong breathing muscles.

Link in bio for more on the recent research showing measurable improvements in inspiratory muscle strength in as little as 4 weeks.

💨Inspiratory muscle pressure rose +44% in 4 weeks
💨Peak inspiratory flow +22%
💨S-INDEX +25%

A few minutes. Twice a day 💙

Breathwork or breathing training? Why not both? 🫁

We caught up with Coach, to unpack an important distinction: breathwork can help us change how we breathe, while respiratory muscle training specifically works to strengthen the muscles we breathe with.

Different tools. Different purposes. Both can have a place.

As interest in breathing continues to grow, understanding that difference matters.

Thanks Anthony for helping us bridge the gap. 🙌

This on repeat.

Make it part of the routine 🫁

At your desk. After your morning coffee. Before training. While the kettle boils.

30 breaths, twice a day. A few minutes that can fit almost anywhere.

The best routine? The one you’ll actually stick to.

September reset: start with your breathing 🫁

A new month. A return to routine. And a good opportunity to understand your breathing a little better.
