The GolfSixes League is a team-based competition that gives juniors the experience of being part of a team and representing your club at beginner level.

Askernish Golf Course has climbed from 49 to 44 in the latest rankings of Scotland’s best golf courses — and at the heart of this success is the exceptional work of our Head Greenkeeper, Donald “Nollie” MacKinnon.

Over the past two years, Nollie has led the development of the course with outstanding professionalism, deep technical knowledge, and an unwavering commitment to authentic course management. His stewardship of the historic Old Tom Morris layout — combined with his sensitive, environmentally responsible approach to maintaining the machair without fertilisers or pesticides — has elevated Askernish’s reputation as one of the most natural and unique links experiences in the world.

Reviewers continue to praise the stunning run of dune holes and the purity of the landscape, with many describing Askernish as “among the finest natural links anywhere.” The course has also enjoyed renewed visibility following last year’s new course record set during the Outer Hebrides Pairs by visiting American professional Isaac Weintraub.

This rise in national ranking is a testament to Nollie’s leadership, expertise, and dedication — and a brilliant achievement for the island community and everyone involved.

Having been delayed a number of weeks due to weather we finally managed to round off our summer season this afternoon with the Medal Winners Trophy.

Seven players qualified but the chances of getting all 7 together were slim so we went with the minimum field of 3.

A chilly day with the North wind and a few showers but overall not bad conditions and for the middle of November the course is in great nick.

On to the golf and a reasonable standard was on show. It was a close contest but the winner with a score of nett 70 was Colin Russell. Runner up with a 72 was Ron MacKinnon and in 3rd was Martin Jacobs on 76.

Our Winter league is also underway and the best effort today was a 34 pointer by Steve Montgomery. Early leader courtesy of being the only player to have submitted 2 cards is Allan Louis Macdonald.
