FC Riverview 2-1 Wear Vedra United

Not the best performance today but a win nonetheless.

A terrible first half display with lads thinking they just had to turn up to get a result. A much improved 2nd half display with the gaffer Dylan Ditchburn doing his best Neil Warnock at HT.

1-0 down at HT. Nothing to shout home about, a few chances for both sides but we were rocked early by losing our keeper to injury. Hats off to Josh Anderson who stepped in and did the lads proud today.

The first goal came in fortuitous circumstances but one we needed. After Kieran Cramman won a free kick Pearce Graham stepped up looking for one of those sumptuous deliveries. A gust of wind took this one towards goal though lobbing the keeper and hitting the back of the net.

Goalscorer turning provider this time to find the winner for the lads. After spreading the play out wide Pearce made a back post run and was found by a fantastic delivery from Kieran Cramman. Pearce headed it towards goal and it looked to be going in but Gregor Allan made sure of that tapping it beyond their keeper.

A win on the board as we look to end the season on a high note. Thanks to all the lads who turned up today. A welcome back to Jude Shilling who returned from a 7 month lay off with a strong creative performance. Let’s go again next week vs a strong Oddies side.

The Bamburgh 0-1 FC Riverview

After ANOTHER penaltyloss last week. The fourth time this season we’ve exited the cups on penalties we looked to do the league double over local rivals The Bamburgh.

A classic game on the bents park today with neither side really excelling in possession and probably a game of two halves due to the wind and slope.

A win is a win though and the lads dug in and worked hard for this one. The first half didn’t really have much going for it apart from a Dex Shannon chance and a good save from our big man Zenas.

We took control in the second half and a superb delivery from Jack Lucas found Ben Lysaght fresh off his double last week. This time he turned provider as he coolly side footed the ball onto the onrushing Dex whose diving header left the keeper with no chance.

We were very unfortunate not to make it 2-0 late on. Again a great delivery from Jack Lucas but this time it was Ash Machin (sponsored by Vertu Hyundai Silverlink) who rose the highest, unfortunately his header went narrowly wide.

A league double over our local rivals is always nice. Some bragging rights this time around and hopefully we use this win to start our climb up the table.

FC Riverview 2-2 Plough FC

After last week’s penalty heartbreak. The third time this season we’ve exited the cup on penalties (something to work on for next year). We looked to get our league campaign back on track. We came up against a strong Gateshead side sitting third in the table.

We started the game very strongly and the returning Anthony Vickers put us 1-0 up inside 15 minutes. After a poor clearance from the goalkeeper Vickers picked up the ball around 25 yards out and decided to have a pop. The ball was struck ferociously and with plenty of movement leaving the goalkeeper no chance.

We continued to press forward and took a deserving 2-0 lead. Keegan Corner this time the creator having beat his man down the wing he squared the ball onto the onrushing Pearce Graham who couldn’t miss. A simple tap in to put in the ascendancy.

A couple of enforced changes due to injury seemed to tip the balance into Gateshead’s favour. A penalty got them back into the game and then a fortunate goal drew them level. A clearance getting lost into the sun and then the Gateshead N9 miss controlling the ball however luckily finding it’s way past the returning Zenas Anne.

Both sides had chances to win it late on however neither could find that finishing touch. A draw ended up probably a fair result but we will take lots of positives from the improved performance.

Next up is our return game Vs The Dolphin. The Dolphin are having a superb unbeaten campaign however we did hold them to a 3-3 draw at the start of the year. We will be looking to go one better this Sunday.

A few new faces have come through the door and we are hoping they’ll help us finish the season strong and look to build for next year.

FC Riverview 6-2 Jarrow Red Hackle F.C.

We progress in the Billy Pembleton cup thanks to today’s comprehensive victory.

We started slowly and found ourselves one nil down after 10 minutes. The game was then turned on its head as Dex was brought down by the opposing keeper when through on goal. He left the referee no choice as he was given his marching orders. Up stepped Pearce Graham from the free kick and he dispatched the ball venomously into the bottom corner.

We dominated the game but we were 2-1 down at HT. The Hackle striker showing great ability and finishing to put the ball beyond Zenas.

Shortly after HT we got ourselves level from another set piece. Josh Anderson this time rattled the post but Gregor was on hand to tap the ball behind the goalkeeper.

Our third goal came from the returning Liam Shields. A 30 yard strike that the keeper couldn’t deal with despite getting a hand to it.

We firmly took control of the tie with our fourth goal of the day. Keegan Corner taking his time to run down the line and square the ball to Alex who controlled it and slotted it into the bottom corner.

With a tiring Hackle we made it 5-2. A first goal for our new signing David Whitehead. After chasing a through ball he rounded the keeper and poked the ball into the empty. No doubt it’ll be the first of many.

Our final goal came through Shaun Hansen. Keegan Corner another assist this one was even better as he produced Kevin De Bruyne esque bending pass to Hansen who slotted home first time.

A great result and we can’t wait for the next round. Hopefully a good cup run is on the horizon.
