South Shields Velo Cycling Club SSVCC are a cycling club that welcomes cyclists of all abilities, experience and goals.

Based in South Tyneside North East England we ride road, we ride CX, we race, we coach young cyclists, we time trial, we hill climb and we ride for coffee and cake. South Shields Velo Cycling Club (SSVCC) we are based in South Tyneside, North East of England. As a club we provide a platform for all abilities of cyclist and levels of experience. We offer the opportunity to participate in:

🏆 What a Weekend at Gypsies Green! 🏆

​The dust (and mud!) has finally settled on the 2026 British Cycling National Cyclo-cross Championships, and all we can say is: WOW.

​South Shields Velo CC is incredibly proud to have seen the best riders in the country tackle the sand, the grass, and those infamous coastal winds right here on our home turf. From the elite battles to the rising stars in the youth categories, the talent on display over the weekend was world-class.

​📸 Highlights of the Weekend:

​The Support and Weather: A massive thank you to the spectators who lined the barriers. Your cheers will be something the riders won’t forget anytime soon! Or the weather 😀 🥶☀️🌪🌧 which made for interesting riding and viewing on both days!

​The Course: Huge respect to the course builders and volunteers who worked tirelessly to ensure the track was challenging, fair, and uniquely "South Shields." And then cleared it all away. Too many to mention here but special shout outs to Paul Steadman, Martin McTavy and Jamie Brady.

​Our Volunteers: To the marshals, sign-on teams, and everyone behind the scenes—this event wouldn't have been possible without your dedication. You showed the national cycling community exactly what the Northeast's CX community is made of.

​🥇 Congratulations to the New National Champions!

​A massive well done to all the riders who earned their stripes this weekend. Wear those jerseys with pride! We'll share the British Cycling list soon.

​We also want to give a special shout-out to our own SSVCC members who competed—seeing the club colors out there in a national field was a truly special moment for us all.

The British Cycling National Cyclo-cross Championships are nearly here and Velo UK have published the competitor lists for both days.

Competitors are coming from all across the UK: Abergavenny, Cardiff, Devon, Dundee, Glasgow, Lincoln, London, Loughborough and Southampton. There are representatives from the Army, Royal Airforce and Navy too.

South Shields are being represented by Martin McTavy, Paul Steadman, Mark Fayer and Simon Reynolds. Their race starts at 11.40. Get along and lend them your support!
