The Wasps were in league action tonight for the final time this season, our opponents were Whickham Fellside and it proved to be a good entertaining game!

The opening 10 minutes were a little bit cagey with Whickham very strong in midfield and getting into some good positions in and around our box, forcing us to dig in and defend well! As always we grew into the game though and got in behind a few times with Corey who was unlucky not to give us the lead! The midfield battle was really entertaining to watch with both teams strong and plenty of good old 50-50's helping to keep the half time score at 0-0!

At half time we talked about changing our approach, Whickham were very quick in defence so we needed to get the ball into Corey's feet more, allowing him to face up defenders and use supporting midfielders to get ourselves into better positions!

The boys delivered this perfectly in the second half with many more chances created and some real grit and determination to start winning the midfield battle more! We would take the lead when Josh won a free kick on the right wing, Corey flashed it into a really dangerous area where Oscar was on hand to rifle it into the bottom corner! ⚽ We would get a second not long later when Carlos beat a few players before releasing a lovely through ball for Corey, this time facing the defenders he managed to nick his way through on goal and calmly passed it into the bottom corner! ⚽ Whickham kept up the pressure but our back line and midfield worked tirelessly to win the ball back and get us on the counter. From such a situation we won a corner, with some quick thinking Joey and Billy linked up with a short one before Billy whipped it into the box, it fell kindly for Corey to poke home on the half volley for 3-0! ⚽ That would be enough to see out another victory and a 19th game unbeaten! 🙌🏼

Our man of the matches tonight were Corey and Joey, Corey grafted from start to finish with a bit of a bloody face to show for his battles - he changed his game up perfectly in the second half and grabbed a brace of important goals! Joey has really stepped up his energy lately putting plenty of box to box runs together both in attack and defense with some tidy passages of play in between!

What a fantastic season for the Wasps, proud of every single player for their efforts this season ! We wait to find out if we get a promotion but regardless we're looking forward to going again next season! Vespe Per La Vita 🐝♥️⚽

The Wasps had an early kick off this morning up against Consett AFC Nitros, a team that beat us 4-1 in the opening games of the season!

We asked the boys to really focus on playing as a team today and doing the basics right on and off the ball, they executed this perfectly in the first half with lots of lovely flowing passes bringing chances our way. We almost took the lead when Joey lifted a great ball into the box and Harley took a touch before trying to find the net but the keeper was on him quick to make a close range block. We kept playing some fantastic football down the wings and putting balls into the box that didn't quite break out way! Our persistence payed off when Carlos whipped a free kick goalward, the keeper made a great save but Jimmy followed it in and finished expertly, first time and from a tight angle! 👏🏼⚽ Consett were a threat with the long ball and had already rattled the post from the edge of the box before they found an equaliser with another shot from outside the area! We finished the half strongly but couldn't find another breakthrough

At half time we gave positive feedback as we'd played some of the best flowing football we'd seen all season! But we knew Consett would be up for the second half and to keep our discipline and focus

The second half was a closer game for the opening 15 mins with Consett putting us under a bit of pressure, Josh - filling in for the injured Alex, had to be alert with some great saves and handling from crosses! 👏🏼 We would then break away and take the lead when a loose ball was pounced on by Corey who poked a tidy low finished into the net for 2-1! ⚽ We got back into our rhythm at that point and started to control the game again, 10 mins later we scored another when Jimmy found himself in space on the right wing, he whipped a fantastic first time cross in for Corey to finish first time on the half volley, a cracking goal! ⚽ There was time to cap off a great team performance when another ball bounced around in the box before Jimmy nipped in to poke it through the keepers legs for 4-1! A great performance and another 3 points!

Our man of the matches today were Jimmy and Josh, Jimmy worked hard throughout and scored 2 great goals and had a fantastic assist! Josh standing in for Alex made some top saves when the game was tight and helped us get back into control!

17 games unbeaten, 4 defeats all season and all 4 reverse fixtures have now been won! What a team and what a season! Proud of every single player! Vespe Per La Vita 🐝♥️⚽

The Wasps had another league game this morning against Washington FC Wildcats, a team we had a hard fought 1-1 draw with earlier in the season!

Conditions were awful with the wind and rain making it tricky for both teams throughout the game! Washington started quickly, winning a lot of battles in midfield and getting a few pop shots off from the edge of the box. As the half wore on we started to build up play a bit more and had a few decent efforts from the edge of the box ourselves with Corey and Carlos testing their keeper. Washington then swung a corner into the box which took a deflection towards the back post which was finished very well on the volley putting us 1-0 down! The boys didn't let that affect us too much and finished the half the stronger team with Carlos testing the keeper again with a decent free kick and a few dangerous balls in the box which we couldn't quite convert!

At half time we talked about having to be closer to Washington as they had too much time on the edge of our box and to work harder in the tough conditions to match them in midfield!

The boys did step up in the second half and we enjoyed a lot more possession and some decent build up play but no real clear cut chances were to be had for either team. Both sides continued to have shots from the edge of the box but Alex remained largely untested and freezing cold in goal! Joey stung the keepers hands and then Corey took a ball from Joey on the half turn before curling a beauty towards the top corner only for it to clip the post and go wide! It wasn't to be our day and when the ref told us there was a minute to go it looked like our unbeaten run had ended... The boys did break away though and forced a corner for one last chance, everyone into the box for this one, including Alex! Carlos would deliver the corner, Alex would get there to flick it on, Louis would try and finish only for it to get stuck under his feet and then suddenly it hit the net... Corey had lashed it home with literally the final kick off the game! ⚽🙌🏼

The boys fully deserved the point, the attitude this season has been one built on 'never give up' and given the way the game was going, with quite a bit of time wasting and winding each other up to cause frustrations, it was credit to the full team for forcing something positive to happen right at the death!

Our man of the matches today were Sonny and Corey, Sonny was fantastic at right back and played some cracking balls down the line to get us into promising positions. Corey had a very different game to usual where he was up against 3 fast and strong defenders, he ran his socks off and battled non-stop so it was fitting for him to fire in the equaliser and have the last say!

The Wasps were in league action tonight against West Rainton Youth who currently sit top of the league and we were treated to a cracking game from both sides!

West Rainton got off to a great start, winning first balls and getting a few shots off from the edge of the box. They took the lead in that fashion when a spinning long range effort squeezed into the bottom corner! That woke us up a bit and we started getting on the ball a lot more and winning a few battles in the middle of the park. Jimmy did well to flick a ball through for Corey, who had seen an earlier 1v1 saved well, but he made no mistake this time picking out the top corner! ⚽ The half continued with some great battles in midfield leading to chances at both ends before the half time whistle blew

We talked about getting our heads up and picking out more through balls for our attackers to run into space but also to keep our heads, being strong in the 50-50's but composed and switched on as West Rainton were very quick on restarts from throw ins and corners

The boys delivered this in another great half of football that ebbed and flowed. West Rainton would take the lead with another good effort from the edge of the box that took a slight deflection and wrong footed Alex! We picked ourselves up to go again though and Harley took a quick throw which Corey took in his stride and fired into the bottom corner for 2-2! ⚽ The through balls were starting to pay off with Corey getting in a few times before he was clipped in a 1v1 with the ref bringing it back for a penalty after trying to play on. Corey kept his nerve to fire in his hat trick for 3-2! ⚽ The game really opened up and with West Rainton putting some cracking balls in the box, some last ditch defending and great handling from Alex managed to keep the door shut though. We sealed the win when Carlos whipped in a great free kick from the left flank and found the far corner! ⚽ A great game of football and a fantastic 4-2 victory!

Our man of the matches were Corey and Alex, Corey picked by the opposition for his tidy finishing but also his work closing down and chasing every ball! Alex picked by the coaches for fantastic handling and distribution throughout!

The Wasps were in action again on Saturday morning, at home to Washington Athletic Bayern in an entertaining game from start to finish!

We've been on a good run and starting games fast of late but Bayern were faster out of the blocks creating the first chance after 5 minutes which they duly finished into the bottom corner! 👏🏼 we came into the game a little more as the half wore on with Joey forcing a good save from close range and Corey having a decent effort from the edge of the box. The clearest chance of the half fell to Corey when Bayern GK spilled a loose ball leaving Corey with an open goal. Unfortunately the ball took a bobble as he hit it and ended up sailing over the bar! Bayern could have pulled further ahead with an overhead kick that was goal bound but for a fantastic save from Billy... Unfortunately Billy isn't a goalkeeper though and a penalty was awarded! The Wasps were let off when the penalty rebounded off the post and was thankfully followed closely by the HT whistle!

At half time we talked about wanting to win first balls more and getting closer to the opposition, they were winning by wanting it more than us on the day and that's not something that happens often!

The boys took this on in the second half and got straight on the front foot, Jimmy did well not to give up on a ball into the box. He managed to flick a cross to the back post where Corey was on hand to nod home! ⚽ We kept putting balls into the box and got our reward when another ball was spilled and Corey made no mistake with this one, firing into the bottom corner to give us the lead! ⚽ Bayern were a constant threat on the counter and played a fantastic through ball which got them in 1v1 and a calm finish brought the scores level at 2-2! Both teams would chase a winner, but both defences threw everything at the game to hold onto a point each and probably a fair result for both teams! 🤝🏼

Our man of the matches today were Josh and Oscar! Josh played some fantastic passes and ran his socks off down the right wing! Oscar marshalled centre midfield really well and won a lot of first balls in the second half to get us on the attack!

Not the 3 points we wanted but a 14th game in a row unbeaten! Vespe Per La Vita 🐝♥️⚽

The Wasps were in action this morning in a 3rd v 1st match against Hartlepool FC Yellows, a team who beat us 4-1 in the early part of the season!

We got the game underway and from the off it was a real battle with both teams fighting hard for control of the game, we had a few half chances with Joey cracking in a great free kick which Hartlepool keeper did well to save and Harley almost poking in the rebound. Corey and Carlos were a threat with a few decent efforts from just outside the box. We had to be alert at the other end of the pitch on a few occasions though when Hartlepool broke through and looked to be in 1 on 1 but for some fantastic defending between Sam, Billy and Sonny! 👏🏼 We would take the lead midway through the half when a ball into the box broke for Oscar, he turned it goalward with it coming off the post and trickling along the goal line where Corey was on hand to make sure it hit the net! ⚽ The rest of the half played out the same way with both teams having some good moments but both fighting and defending well to prevent any clear cut chances!

At half time we talked about keeping our composure and releasing the ball sooner, we needed to play more direct football and press high up the pitch

That was tricky for the boys to process as we do try and play fluid football but sure enough they managed to deliver. Hartlepool came out with a lot more fight and we had to match that across the pitch which setup a very entertaining second half! For the first 10 mins or so Hartlepool were on top but more great defending and some safe hands from Alex kept them at bay! They would find an equaliser though when they broke through 1 on 1. Their striker won a foot race with Alex and nipped it around him which was followed by a collision resulting in a penalty which they dispatched well! 👏🏼 The boys really stepped up though and stopped Hartlepool building any momentum, we got back on the front foot and tested their defence as the game became stretched. Hartlepool would put more strikers on and go for the win so we had to react and change formation to soak that pressure up. The game plan was perfect when with 2 minutes to go we won the ball deep in our half and broke away quickly, Carlos got in down the right wing and picked out a world class pass to find Oscar bursting into the box, he rifled a first time half volley into the roof of the net! The last 2 minutes was backs to the wall with a number of corners coming into the box, Joey made a block on the line and Sonny was on the floor thrusting everything he had at the ball in a full goalmouth scramble! That was that though and we took a fantastic 2-1 win away! 💪🏼😁

Our man of the matches today were Sam and Carlos, Sam gave his best performance of the season, he won everything and was encouraging his teammates all match! Carlos linked up our midfield to attack from first to last whistle and the assist for the winner was top drawer! The full team can be proud of themselves today with a very mature performance and a fantastic 3 points! 🙌🏼

The Wasps were in league action yesterday against Birtley Town Greens, a team who had beaten us 2-0 earlier in the season so we knew a top performance would be needed to get any points

We started on the front foot with Corey going close on a couple of occasions before he decided to take a pop shot from 25yds which caught the keeper out finding the bottom corner for 1-0! ⚽ We found our rhythm from there on with some fantastic football though saw Corey go close again with Birtley GK making some top saves and also the post preventing us extending the lead! We would get a second goal before HT when Harley whipped in a great corner which deflected in for an OG! ⚽

That would take us to half time and the only talking points we had were to maintain mental focus, treat it as 0-0 and go out to win the second half as well!

The boys went out and continued where we left off with some high pressing and good football from back to front. We extended the lead when Carlos curled a lovely free kick into the bottom corner from a tight angle! ⚽ Not long later we would grab another when Harley and Carlos played some great little interchanges down the right wing before Carlos pulled it back for Corey who expertly curled it into the top corner with a first time finish! 👏🏼⚽ There would be time for one more goal when Billy went on one of his mazy runs, taking on a number of players before sliding it under the keeper for a wonderful solo goal! 🙌🏼⚽

Full time and another fantastic 3 points! Our man of the matches today were Harley and Billy, Harley's awareness and interplay today was top quality in a number of different positions! Billy worked his socks off up and down the pitch and capped his performance with a cracking goal!

Saturday, 9am KO and a freezing cold league game for the Wasps this morning, up against Willington Youth Blues who always give us a tough game!

The boys started well and created a few chances and looked in control of the game but we quickly found ourselves 1-0 down after a ball over the top got Willington in 1v1! We didn't let that affect us though and got back level pretty quickly when a ball into the box sat up for Billy who controlled a lovely half volley into the bottom corner! ⚽ We continued to press and Corey tried his luck from distance with the ball curling away from the keeper and into the net for 2-1! ⚽ We kept putting balls into the box and Harley whipped a great ball in which broke for Carlos who cooly slotted into the bottom corner! ⚽ Willington were a constant threat with the ball over the top and they brought one back in just that manner with a tidy lob over the keeper! 👏🏼 Again we reset and kept going, Harley reacted fastest to a corner and poked in from close range for 4-2 bringing and end to a pulsating first half! ⚽

At half time we talked about getting shots and crosses off but focusing on reacting first and gambling a bit more off the ball. Aside from that we asked the boys to keep the concentration and energy levels up to not let the cold wind affect them!

Fair play to them they took this on and delivered a great second half! Corey intercepted a ball out from the keeper and used the outside of his foot to slot into the bottom corner! ⚽ Carlos then fired a free kick goalward and Harley reacted fastest to the loose ball with a fine left foot finish! ⚽ Joey then had a pop from distance which found it's way back to him after being saved and he slammed the rebound in! ⚽ Willington kept going as always and grabbed their 3rd with a good half volley that Sam was unlucky not to keep out! Straight from kick off Corey latched onto a through ball and provided a world class dinked finish with his left foot, something we've been asking him to use all season! ⚽😂 Some great goals and great effort from both teams and a well deserved 8-3 victory! 🙌🏼

Our man of the matches today were Corey and Harley, Corey got his usual goals but linked up play well today and his third goal was a treat to watch! Harley grabbing 2 goals whilst playing in defence and putting some great balls into the box!

A lovely morning today for the Wasps to be back in action, we were up against Washington United yellows! A familiar opponent we've had plenty of good games against over the years!

We got off to a fast start today and had a couple of opportunities before Corey put us into the lead - he'd latch onto a lovely diagonal ball over the top from Carlos before cutting inside a defender to finish into the bottom corner! ⚽ We kept that energy up and went close a few more times with Corey unlucky in a 1v1 and Carlos clipping the bar from the edge of the box! Another through ball from Carlos would get Corey in again though and this time he made no mistake, poking it low past the keeper for 2-0! ⚽

That would see us through to HT where we talked about keeping up our energy on a very hot day and letting the ball do the work by picking simpler passes in our build up play!

The boys executed this very well but not before Washington did pull one back with a low finish of their own after a throw in! 👏🏼 We didn't let our heads drop though and continued to build momentum, Harley flashing a cross come shot just wide and Corey rattling the post with a great effort from a tight angle! We did get another goal when Joey whipped in a cracking corner and Sam was there to bury a header into the bottom corner! ⚽ He'd repeat the trick again not long later when Louis whipped in a cracking corner of his own and Sam buried another header under pressure at the near post! ⚽ We had a few more chances before sealing the win when Sam found Joey on the edge of the box, he skipped past a challenge and flashed a low drive into the bottom corner! 5-1 and a fantastic 3 points! 🙌🏼

Our man of the matches today were Sam and Louis, Sam was exceptional from the back and kept our heads up at 2-1 before grabbing a couple of great goals to help us pull away! Louis trained well in midweek and that was followed up with a hard working performance and a great assist, unlucky not to score himself as well!

The Wasps were in league action on Saturday morning in a tough but entertaining game against Washington FC Wildcats!

The game started fairly even with limited chances at both ends of the pitch, Joey tested their keeper with a free kick and Oscar fired from range but that was as close as we would come in the opening quarter hour! We brought Corey on and he got straight into the action, Carlos played a lovely ball over the top and Corey cut inside and fired a low hard drive that beat the keeper at the near post for 1-0! ⚽ Washington started to play some decent football and pushed for an equaliser before half time, they played a nice ball across the box which looked destined to be finished from 5 yards but Alex sprawled across his goal to make a fantastic save and protect our lead!

That would see us through to HT where we talked about being a bit more aggressive in winning first balls and getting our heads up to pick passes as our wingers were often in good positions!

The boys took this on and started to create some chances early on, Louis and Corey linked up well before laying it on for Harley who had a pop and rattled the post - inches from finding the top corner! The game was very end to end with both keepers called into action! Alex made some top class saves, most notably a shot from the edge of the box that was flying towards the top corner before he somehow tipped it over! 🙌🏼 Washington's keeper was in similar form tipping a cracking effort from Carlos over the bar as well! 👏🏼 Washington did find an equaliser when a throw was flicked on and carried by the high winds which unfortunately caught Alex out. Both teams would then go looking for a winner with Louis going close driving a low shot just wide from a tight angle after more good build up play! Not long after Corey got in 1v1 but their keeper stayed big and made another good save! In the final moments Washington would have their chance for a winner with Alex initially doing well before Sam would make an incredible goal line clearance which would prove to be the final action! A hard fought 1-1 draw and a great effort from both teams! 🤝🏼

Our man of the matches today were Alex and Sam, Alex picked by the opposition for some unbelievable saves and great handling throughout! Sam picked by the coaches for his solidity and great passing from the back, as well as his block in the final attack of the game!
