🔴⚪🔵 Boldon Girls 0–1 Bishop Auckland AJX
What. A. Game. 👏
If you like football with loads of goals, end-to-end madness and defenders wondering what they’ve done with their lives… this probably wasn’t the game for you! 😂
But if you like two very good teams battling it out, superb football, outstanding defending and very few chances — then this was absolutely brilliant.
Bishop Auckland AJX will undoubtedly be right up there in the top two this season, and they showed exactly why. They had two players, No.5 and No.8, who could quite easily turn up at Sunderland training tomorrow and not look out of place! 😳😂
A lot of their good play went through those two, but credit where it’s due — we marshalled them brilliantly.
Losing Emily in the warm-up was never going to help. Nothing like changing the game plan five minutes before kick-off to keep the coaches relaxed! 😂
But the girls absolutely galvanised together and produced a superb first half. We defended brilliantly, played some fantastic football and went into half-time at 0-0.
And it wasn’t just about defending either. At times, our football was outstanding. We moved the ball, created outlets and showed absolutely no fear against a very strong team.
At the back Freya, Lydia and Evie were absolutely brilliant, with Annabelle and Scarlett backing them up superbly. They were organised, composed and dealt with everything that came their way.
In midfield, Erin, Alice and Lottie must have covered about 10km each. 😂 Honestly, if anyone has a step counter screenshot, we’d like to see it because there is absolutely no way they didn’t run a marathon between them!
They were all excellent and gave us the energy to compete throughout.
Demi, Gabby and Robyn were constantly giving us energy and outlets to get us up the pitch, while Georgia simply refused to stop working. She chased, pressed, battled and kept their defence under pressure for the entire game.
Then came the one moment that decided it.
A little mistake right at the start of the second half was punished, and Bishop took the lead.
1-0.
And despite the result, there was absolutely no heads going down. The girls continued to compete and kept trying to play our football against a side who are going to cause plenty of teams problems this season.
Ultimately, it was decided by one little mistake in a game of very few chances.
That’s football.
But if we can play like that consistently throughout the season, we will absolutely be right in the mix. 💪
There is plenty to be positive about.
⭐ Opposition GOTG
Annabelle – superb against a very strong attack.
⭐ Coaches’ GOTG
Alice, Evie, Lydia & Erin R – all outstanding and gave absolutely everything.
And Parents’ Player of the Match was a three way tie between Freya, Annabelle and Lydia - well done girls!
A narrow defeat, but a massive performance from the girls.
Onwards and upwards! 🔴⚪🔵
