Match day 3
After 7 goals last week the lads were hungry for more against a Wrekenton team we played twice last year.

A very windy day the coaches decided to play against the wind first half knowing we wanted to finish strong.

We played some great football and Oakley tested the keeper early. Noah, Charlie Harrison and Matthew all with shots that could have ended up in the back of the net. Then a bit of a sucker punch, a great strike from the Wrekenton forward beat Zac, just getting his fingers to it but unable to keep it out.

We leveled from a strike from Seb, which was saved, and the ball fell to James who slotted home with the keeper still on the floor.

More great play from David down the right and Seb bombing on the left created more chances but we went in at half time 2-1 down after another long range, wind assisted strike after a quick kick in.

We knew we had more than enough to come back into the game but it took around 10 mins to get the breakthrough. Joseph weaved into the box and was about to shoot, when he was fouled. James stepped up as our penalty taker and slammed it home.

Some beautiful play with Harrison, Joseph and Charlie down the left meant we were quickly ahead. Harrison bagging a brace in very similar moves leaving defenders helpless as the ball was passed round them.

Charlie again turning provider for James this time and after he has scored 2 each in the previous games, he completed his hat-trick from close range.

James turning provider soon after feeding Noah who chipped it over the keeper for our 6th.

Joesph completed a great performance with a goal from the edge of the box to make it 7-2.

David almost added to the scoring but couldn’t quite get his shot past the keeper.

What was especially pleasing, was how we defended second half and kept our heads when we needed to. Strong tackles and tracking from Oakley and Matthew meant we kept our clean sheet.

Zac completely diffused any danger second half and was very commanding in his box. We had worked on long balls into the box and taking charge. This was definitely on display today and deserved his clean sheet.

We went with James for MoTM. Scoring crucial goals at crucial times, great tracking back and good decision making. Another great performance from the team with multiple strong candidates. 3 games, 7 points 18 goals scored and 7 conceded. What a great bunch of lads we have.

Three big games for our Tigers and Krakens this weekend. Both our Sunday seasons get started this weekend and Saturday week 3. We will have 21 lads playing for us this weekend and are proud of what we have built and seeing the lads grow as young boys into young men. They love their football and so do the coaches and parents.

We have a few debuts this weekend, one old and two new. Josh is coming back full time on a Sunday for the Krakens. Mark and Aaron will both be playing their first competitive games for the Sunday Tigers after learning the ropes against our good friends Harton and Westoe Force last night.

Good luck to all the teams and all the lads. 🐅🦑

Match day 2
After last weeks positive performance and 4-4 thriller we were hoping to get our seasons first win against Ryhope.

We started brightly and controlled most of the play but couldn’t find the killer finish. James and Harrison going closest early on. Charlie was an attacking threat down the right creating chances.

The breakthrough came after Noah intercepted and drove forward, unleashing his shot against the bar, but James was there to slam home.
Matthew, wearing his boots after he left them at home, came on and had a chance from a Noah throughball but fired just wide. He would have a carbon copy chance minutes later after a brilliant ball from James and he made no mistake second time around.

Charlie, now in defence, pressed high up and won the ball back. He played in Oakley who fired past the keeper. He had been sent on with his coaches telling him he would get his first league goal. Good lad Oakley. Welcome to the Tigers!

A fairly quiet half for Zac keeping his clean sheet with a few regulation saves but he had one covered that crashed onto the bar.

Into the second half and Noah and Joseph combining brilliantly set up James for our 4th. The opposition couldn’t get near Joseph all day stringing passes together with the team.

Harrison made the 5th all himself, taking the quick kick in, cutting inside and firing home from outside the box.

Seb was next in on the act after working tirelessly up top. He had pressed and made chances for others. Joseph’s shot was saved then the rebound fell to Seb to score.

Playing against the extra man, our opponents did get their deserved goal from a corner. Zac a bit gutted he couldn’t keep that clean sheet but he will be happy with the saves he made.

The scoring was wrapped up by Harrison, getting his first 2 of the season. Another cracking strike after the ball broke after a shot from Matthew had been blocked.

The win secured and players, coaches and parents delighted with the efforts. A great team performance with everyone contributing.

A very difficult MOTM decision but coach Keith went with Noah. He created loads of chances, blocked shots (painfully), made tackles, and could have scored a couple too. Great performance.

Back again next week and both Sunday teams get their seasons started.

Matchday finally here for our U10 season opener. Kits looking superb for their first outing of the season. If ever there was a more sobering image to coaches and parents it was 20 mins before kickoff with all the lads playing on the slide and see-saw. What a reminder at the start of the season that they are just little lads and we put great pressure on them to perform every week. But boy do they love their football!

A blustery day against a strong Peterlee team who had played in the division above last year, so we knew we it would be a tough start. A fairly even half with not many clear cut chances. David battled hard up top creating chances and Harrison had a free kick that hit the wall. David probably had the best chance but couldn’t quite squeeze it past an excellent Peterlee keeper.

Zac made some great first half stops and did really well sweeping up balls played through. We did go in 1-0 at the half with a strong finish from Peterlee. Oakley made his competitive debut for us but he was carrying a bad injury and this game came a week early and needed a bit more rest.

With the wind second half we knew we would create plenty of chances. Harrison crossed for Matthew and he shot decisively past the keeper. The good work was undone and we found ourselves 3-1 despite hitting the bar and still pushing.

Next a moment of magic from James, who picked the ball out of the air, beat two defenders and fired bottom corner. 3-2.

James at it again scoring a scrappy goal after a bit of pinball in the box. 3-3.

Next the best bit of football of the day. Noah bringing the ball out of defence and driving forward, a great run from Harrison dragged defenders away so Noah cut inside and played an inch first through-ball for Joseph to slam home from the edge of the box for us to take the lead with 3 mins to go. Noah and Joseph showing the link they have formed from the beginning (check the photo below that popped up from our memories today)

Some brilliant defending as a team but standout mentions to Matthew, Joseph, Noah and Charlie who covered, tackled and were so calm on the ball meant we could attack at
will. Charlie stepping out from the back with the ball, picking passes was great to see.

Sadly we couldn’t hold on for the win and the lads were raging as the ref gave a dubious penalty right at the death which they converted. This was the last kick of the game and gave us no chance to go again.

What was so pleasing on the day was our team spirit and defending in numbers. We aren’t the biggest team but we will give everyone a good game if we replicate the passion and skill on show today. Great start to the season and we go for our first win again next week. Go Tigers 🐅🔵⚪️

MOTM went to Matthew for a commanding display at the back in the first half, grabbing a goal in the second and continuing to drive
the team forward. Good to see him back to his best after the injury at the end of last season.

Tournament day at Pro-motiv8 mid/high level. In what coach Dixon described at the end as “a day you’ll remember forever”

After being told pre match, by CEO Anderson, that “we always start tournaments terribly, so get them motivated or you’re getting the sack”.

Spotting our new blue and white kits we were looking sharp. Hoping the football could match how good they looked.

FOL up first and the lads listened and we got off to a fast start. David getting two goals from a combined 1 yard, including pinching Joseph’s goal bound effort off the line in true striker fashion. We were pegged back but James was laid in by guest Jai, to slot in our third. Off to a winning start for once!

New Durham up next and Zac made good saves to keep a clean sheet. A goal from Jax secured the win to make it two from 2.

Wynyard for our third game and we found ourselves two down and looked well beaten. The lads made a good comeback though a goal from Jax. Jax was then fouled on the edge of the box and James stepped up to score. Great celebrations from the lads. We did have a chance to win but Noah’s free kick went just wide at the death.

Semi final slot secured we played Wideopen next. We took the lead from a scooped effort from David. Some unlucky goals saw us fall behind and suffer our first loss.

Last up was the derby against Harton Real. We were really not at the races and did not match their intensity. Some very poor goals conceded on our part but David did grab another tapping in after Harrison’s long range shot.

Onto the semi final after finishing third in the group.

Playing Wynyard we knew this would be a great game again. We continued our poor form and had a shocking first half going in 3-0 down after 8 minutes. Changes at the half and a talk about rather losing 5-0 and going for it rather than not giving it a good go. A cross from James and a good volley from Jax saw us back in it. James then slammed one home from the edge of the box and we could smell blood. Only one team pressing and again James delivered with the equaliser. 3-3 what a comeback and effort from everyone of the lads. But with a draw in a knockout game everyone knows what’s next… Pens!

Jai took the first and scored. Our second was missed but they missed the third. James scored keeping the contest going to sudden death. They scored and so did David. Another Wynyard miss meant we had the chance to progress which we …. missed! Next Zac making a superb save with his feet meant Charlie had the chance to win it. He stepped up and in off the post we went through to the final. Great scenes of celebration from everyone, but we had a final to win.

Wideopen in the final, who had also come through on pens showing the even nature of the tournament.

The game was evenly matched and Zac pulled off a great save to keep it 0-0. Harrison and Jax had long range efforts but no goals. 0-0 at the half and then the storm! Ridiculous amounts of rain, thunder and lightning meant the game and tournament had to be abandoned for the safety of the kids. We were crowned joint winners with Wideopen.

Amazing effort all day from all the lads. Only 3 left in the celebration pics as we had to wait around to find out what was happening but they will get them at training this week. Up the Harton 🔵⚪️

Season starts next week against Hartlepool so look out for the weekly updates.

New signing alert! Saturday Tigers are delighted to welcome Oakley to the team. He brings experience, pace and goals to the team. We look forward to seeing what this lad can do this season with the team. Exciting times ahead. I’m sure he will also be delighted with Sunderland’s Europa league draw as he is adding to the Mackem ranks in the team. Shannon Canavan

He’s sporting our new kit and looking sharp.

Thanks to everyone who sponsored the lads on their sponsored walk. All repping the Hays Travel South Shields The Nook kit and some with our new kit.

The weather was great and we spent hours down the sea front. Football at the start and football at the end.

We would also like to thank a random group of lads around 15-16 who played against the Tigers in the cage. Teenagers get a bad reputation sometimes and these lads showed how nice they can be with much younger lads. This is the power of football and why we want our kids playing for as long as they can.
