Most annoying but true answer is 'it depends'
Reasons why you may not need a PT and keep your hard earned money.
1.Free Information- You can get lots of information and programs for free right here on the internet and still get amazing results.
2. Self motivated/Dedicated- Consistency is key and if you are able to get in the gym on a regular basis by yourself. Awesome!
3-Self teach- Learning how to use machines and free weights can be daunting to a lot of people so having a personal trainer show you how to do certain movements face-face could be very beneficial. However you can learn how to do things in the gym by watching videos on the internet if you have a bit more patience and are willing to take a bit more time.
Reasons why you might consider hiring a PT-
1)Program Design- Instead of a cookie cutter program you will get online. A good personal trainer will tailor a program towards your individual needs, take into consideration your experience level, and any muscle imbalances or injuries you have at the current time.
2)Accountability/Motivation-
A lot of us have busy lives and the last thing we think about is going to the gym. Sometimes we get lost doing other things and we keep putting off training.
With a PT they will help with building habits that you can sustain for the long term.
3)Break Plateaus-
So you have been consistent with your healthy eating habits and training program for a while now (awesome job btw!) and now your progress has stalled examples- The scale wont budge, Can't hit a higher weight on the Bench Press, Not getting a faster time on your 5k. A PT will have the right progression protocols to keep making progress and break those plateaus.
