What Motivates you?

With the pandemic and the continual lockdowns the biggest obstacle people come across is a lack of motivation.

Motivation is the "get up and go" we have to complete a given task or activity in the day.

Motivation can come and go with the wind and daily life can get away

•relationships
• negative influence (both external and internal)
•family responsibilities

The list can go on!

How can we improve and maintain motivation

PLAN OUT YOUR DAY

Setting out a routine for your day can be a great positive step. Something as simple as having a specific time for your training can give you that extra push that you need.

Positive vibes

Having positivity in your life is a great way to keep motivation high! Do things that you enjoy in your down time wether that be reading a book or listening to an informative podcast, align your reading and listening matter to your goals!

Know your why

Understanding why you are training is also a massive factor. Wether it's for a wedding, holiday or sports performance knowing and understanding what is needed to reach that goal can keep you and your motivation on track.

In the picture included is the 2 main motivational groups and the how they correspond to you.

NEW YEAR SAME OLD STORY?
How to make 2019 the year you stick to your goals!

The time has came! It's 2019 and you've rattled off the old saying of "new year, New me" and the new you falls off the wagon and an AWOL report comes about february 1st and come June your still paying for the membership you don't use!
Here's 3 simple ways of kick starting your health and Fitnes Goals

1) Turning up!- This one is the hardest. Those 6am rises or post work sessions test your fortitude mentally, Your tired and really can't be arsed going so you decide you'll "Go Tomorrow" and a fortnight later you're still not logged a single session!
Physically stepping through the doors is a massive step in the right direction and wether that's a 30 minute class or 45 minutes of cardio it's better than nothing! This will help you build a routine which will turn into habit.

2) Take baby steps- Fitness newbies Instagram is not your friend and never will be! This is where most fail and fall away pretty quickly.
You see you're favourite insta "guru" eating his/her bland chicken and rice for the 5th time today so you decide you are gonna follow suit and completely change your diet in one go but you realise you enjoy your burger king at lunch and swiftly patch it.
Rather than eat like a robot and most people that eat like that have a personality to match! Start with eating a helathy breakfast for a week and then as the weeks go on start switching the junk for better alternatives. This will see you be come more vigilant and consistent over a period of time and help you stick to your dietary goals.

3) Invest in yourself- Let's face it knowledge is power and when it comes to fitness yours will be very limited or none at all in alot of cases, This is where Personal trainers come in handy. Yes on the face of it you can see them as "expensive" but your weekly night out is just as expensive and if not more!
The PT's have a wealth of knowledge to help you acheive your goals in a timely manner and teach you the correct way to perform exercises and avoid injury!

Remember folks the greatest Investment is you! So hope you all smash your goals and remember your body is a phenomenal machine and treat it with the respect it deserves and it'll reward you with the same!

The Fitness Industry- Are we focusing on the wrong things
?
This may sound like a long winded rant but there is a few things within fitness and with all industries are hyped up or well marketed wether that be a new apple i phone or the newest piece of clothing.

The first thing is the exercise below..the hip thrust (aka the glute bridge)

Now I'm a big advocator of doing the basics and doing them well however I don't think we should be concentrating so heavily on one exercise if it has a detrimental effect on others.
The hip thrust is of course a basic exercise that directly trains the Glutes which is one of the most powerful muscles in your body and does have a place in your programme (your butt cheeks for the laymans out there) and is very good exercise and ASSISTANCE exercise to Squats. Assistance exercises are there to assist the big moves (Squat in whatever varient, deadlift and bench press) but it's hype mainly thanks to Brett Conteras has seen a massive influx of hip thrusting and froggy pumps on instagram on social media. Now Brett has been very smart in his way in marketing this movement and has targeted the female fitness population who strive for a "peachy" bum. However his push on this and even referring to himself as the "Glute guy" has seen it become on the same level if not more important than the Squat which it simply isn't.
I have seen a tonne of folk literally load a f**k tonne of weight onto a barbell and barely even reach hip extension nevermind actually thrust the weight up properly. These same folk can barely do a heavy set of squats without knee valgus occuring (collapsing inwards of the knee). This is typically the result of strong hip adductor muscles (located on the inner thigh) overpowering the weak hip abductors (gluteus minimus and gluteus medius). Now if you are looking to become the strongest person you can be I have one question for you " What should you be concentrating your time on?" Simple answer is find your weaknesses and address them. Yes you can hip thrust 180kg a whole 2 inches but you can't squat 100kg without your knees collapsing in then what is that telling you?
STOP WASTING AN INORDINATE AMOUNT OF TIME HIP THRUSTING JUST SO YOU LOOK GREAT ON INSTA!!!!! Focus on correcting your weaknesses and squatting to your potential safely!!

Supplement/ Clothing companies Discount codes:
We all love supps wether that is creatine or whey protein but when you see people become so obsessed about being an "sponsored athlete" or an "Ambassador" it becomes a sad endevour,
Bear in mind companies have one objective. Make money and get as much exposure as physically possible. Now it does seem attractive that a company gives you a free tub of your fave protein or BCAA's in return to you plastering it over social media but remember theres another 100 of folk just like you doing it on social. This does NOT make you a fitness "god" or some kind of pro bodybuilder you are simply a number for a company to make profit from. The oversaturation of folk showing some bu****it supplement followed by " add MARK10 for 10% off this magical fairy dust" is beyond annoying and needs to stop. Your time if you compete or train for any sport should be just that... your sport. Your main bodybuilders like Phil Heath or someone like Connor McGregor are paid millions a year to endorse these companies you however are not and a company sending you a £20 quid tub of protein isn't going to change that considering you needed to buy the rest of your "stack".
Don't fall for marketing peeps no matter how sly it may be and your obsession with being insta famous will see you exploited and used by these companies.

Todays take away is focus on yourself and your overall health and not be another "Fitness wa**er" who posts the same generic s**t everyday, Try and educate and help others by sending useful (notice that word there) content out so people who are new to fitness make the right choices and do not fall into this trap.
