Plymouth True Blues 1 - 1 South Brent Sunday
(Brent win 5-4 on pens)

Brent went in as underdogs in this quarter final of the prestigious Devon cup against Plymouth True blues top of the league above. Brent started well and created the 1st big chance as Henri Hatch raced away 1 on 1 with the keeper but shanked his shot from the edge of the box. Shortly after Jack Langford came close again for Brent beating his man on the side of 18 yard box and driving inward towards goal, but his effort went just over the bar. True Blues were dominating possession as expected but Brent were excellent off the ball and limited the opposition to trying to make something of 2nd balls around the Brent box. True Blues came closest in the 1st half when the ball broke kindly to former Brent youth player Josee on the penalty spot, but he sent his attempted volley skywards. Danny Bryant found some space on the edge of the Blues box and unleashed an effort that went just over the top corner. Brent game plan was working and they frustrated True Blues who are normally 1 of the best possession sides in Sunday football, were resorting to long balls in hope of a goal.

Half time 0 - 0

5 minutes into the 2nd half true Blues took the lead from a Corner, an excellent header from 15 yards out, Brent were unhappy with the decision of no offside with 2 players in an offside position interfering with the keeper. Brent didn't let their set back get them down and Brent pushed forwards more to determined than ever to get a goal. Good play from the Bryants on the right nearly led to the equalizer, but the ball ricocheted off debutant Javin Punia dropping inches wide of the empty net. Brent kept pushing looking to exploit the the blues high line. With 15 minutes to go Kobi Durbing broke free from a challenge and lobbed the keeper who had rushed out to score from 25 yards. Both teams had a couple half chances after this but time was soon up and onto pens.

Brent keeper Doggy Downers defied gravity and stuck a leg out to make a great save from Blues 2nd pen. Everyone else scored after this to make it 4-4 with 1 pen left for Kobi Durbin to step up and put Brent through. An ice cool pen into the roof of the net and cue wild celebrations as Brent Sundays reach a semi final for the 1st time.

Huge thanks to Plymouth True Blues Sunday’s FC who were gracious in defeat and wished us the best going forward. Excellent food and drinks in the pub put on afterwards down the road and we wish them all the best for the rest of the season as they look to seal the league title and other cups.

1st pre season game !!!!!

Inter Plymouth FC 1 - 2 South Brent Sunday

Decent start to pre season against a side that have already played a couple times. Torrential rain, bobbly pitch and gaffa finding creative ways to give 18 man squad plenty of game time didn't help Brent's flow. 2 well take goals from Archie and JJ got the lads off to a winning start this pre season. Promising debuts from Dardis, Owen, Kieran and Benji. Onto next week with some minutes in the legs. Big 4g pitch next week should see us being able to play some more flowing footy.

Sunday May 18th

Harbertonford 4 - 2 South Brent Sundays

Brent went into the game as big underdogs against Harbertonford who had already been crowned as champions with several games to play.

Ford's started the stronger and immediately put Brent under pressure with a flurry of long balls. The pressure paid off after 5 minutes with a shot from the edge of the box taking an unfortunate deflection for Brent, and the ball looped past Northmore in goal. 1-0 Harbertonford. Although Harbertonford continued to dominate the 1st half, Brent showed great resilience and determination to keep the score as it was for most of the 1st half. That was helped by a few excellent saves from Northmore in goal, in particular a flying finger tip save up high to stop what looked a certain goal. When Brent conceded 2 further goals before half time it was from free headers off set pieces, a problem that has troubled the young Brent side all season. Brent did get forward on occasion in the 1st half but didn't carve out any genuine chances.

HT 3-0

Brent came out still determined to show a bit more of what they're about. The 3 attacking subs made at HT of J Weir, and both Bryant brothers helped Brent get on the front foot more often and the team were now giving the home team some genuine concerns. It was however Harbertonford who scored again a free header from a set piece at the back post. Most teams may have started to crumble at this moment and allow Harbertonford to run up another cricket score that they've been accustomed to doing this season. But time and time again this season Brent have shown they are made of tougher stuff. A clever through ball from Chris Hill found Jacob Weir 40 yards out who spotted the GK out of his area and produced a lovely left footed half volley lob to get Brent their 1st goal of the game. Brent were now looking the side most likely to score. A well won header from Chris Hill gave JJ Bryant a decent chance in the box but was unable to connect with the header as he'd have liked. With 5 minutes to go H Hatch knocked the ball into N Andrews around the right hand side of the 6-yard box who swivelled, rolled his man and hit the ball across the goal into the inside of the far net for Brent's 2nd goal and give the veteran his 1st goal since returning to Brent from todays hosts. Soon after the restart it was Brent again who nearly scored, N Andrews won the flick and H Hatch attacked the 2nd ball in the box and forced the Harbertonford keeper into a save down to his left. Great credit must go to Brent's work off the ball making life hard for the home team, as well Brent's back 3 and GK who all had outstanding games. Subs J Weir, D Bryant, T Edwards, N Andrews, JJ Bryant all came on and made a significant impact to give Brent more impetus going forward in a 2nd half that Brent won. What could this team do next season if they are able to cut out some of the goals conceded from set pieces?

Match Report Sun 11th May

🚨 Firkin Scholar 2 - 5 South Brent Sundays 🚨

Torrential rain and no changing rooms greeted both teams as they arrived at Vicky park. After 2 pitch inspections the Ref decided to let the game go ahead. Brent started the better and put together several good attacking moves and were dominating possession. 10 minutes in Brent made the dominance count with 1 of many corners, Archie Bowden won the 1st contact at the back post and Charlie Weir managed to knock the ball in inside the 6 yard box. 0-1 Brent. Brent continued to dominate and created a couple more half chances before Firkin responded. Firkin won a set piece, which appeared to be the 1 department they had the slight edge on Brent. An excellent delivery and loose marking saw an excellent header at the back post across goal into the far corner. 1-1. Brent were still on top and creating half chances. The best chance in this period came for Chris Hill following a Brent corner he seemed certain to score from a header only to get slightly under the ball and head over the bar unmarked from a few yards out. Firkin always looked lively on the counter, and the next goal of the game came from exactly this. A long ball forward should have been dealt with better by Brent, but Firkins lively forwards reacted well and shot come cross was touched in by a Firkin player that looked well offside, but Brent chose this exact moment for the subs to swap linesman duties and nobody was running the line. Brent kept their heads and continued to dominate possession. Seb Moore held the ball up well and found Archie Bowden in behind. Archie went past the goalkeeper but the defender got in front and Archie looked 2nd favourite but made a determined sliding tackle come shot to beat the defender to the ball and make it 2-2. Minutes later, probably the best move of the game saw Brent take the lead. Excellent build up play from Danny Bryant slid in Seb Moore on the inside right of the box who passed across the face for a sliding Archie Bowden to make it 2-3 to Brent. A couple minutes from half time good play down the right from Jack Tidball drew a foul inside the box and a debatable penalty was given. Up stepped JJ Bryant who hit towards bottom right corner but was well saved by the Firkin keeper.

Half time 2-3

The 2nd half was a scrappier affair with Brent looking the most likely to score again. There were no real chances for Firkin in the 2nd half but they continued to look a threat from set pieces and long throws when given the chance. Around 60 minutes a flying studs up challenge just inside the box on Brent's Alfie Lewis-Frost saw a 2nd Brent penalty. This time Archie Bowden stepped up. A poor penalty saw the keeper make another penalty save to his left, but this time the ball wasn't pushed away as well and Archie Bowden assures me he got the touch in the scramble to poke home the rebound and not an own goal as it looked from the sidelines. 2-4 Brent. Around 80 minutes another foul inside the box saw Brent win a 3rd penalty. Nobody seemed determined to take so up stepped Archie Bowden again. Another poor penalty to the keepers left who got a strong hand on it, but this time, the strike had more power and he could only push into the side of the net. 2-5 Brent.

🚨 AFC Stoke 2nds 0 - 7 South Brent Sundays 🚨

South Brent turned up to plympton with no ref available so manager Adam stepped in and did a good job in the middle.

AFC Stoke 2nds turned up with 11 players and credit to them for playing and keeping Brent honest all game.

Brent started the better with confidence from their 4 unbeaten games before and wasn’t long till Seb ran into the box only to be fouled and a penalty given: upstepped JJ to cooly slot home.
4 minutes later and Brent were in again with a ball from Chris Hill into Archie with determination to win the ball before the keeper to tap it in.
22 minutes in Danny played JJ in down the line, cutting into the box drifted past a player or two to smash it past the keeper for 3-0. Moments later a ball played in low straight across goal found JJ unmarked middle of the goal on the line to blaze the ball high over the bar (I’m told it did bobble though 👀)
31 minutes played and a Danny corner found a reward, causing trouble for Stoke and finally brining the ball down was Archie to smash it home for 4-0.

Stoke came close a couple times in the 1st half but were thwarted by smart saves from Luke Puleston in goal. These felt like key moments that prevented Stoke getting back into the game.

Into the second half Brent made two lots of subs and took till 65 min for Archie to make it 5-0. A lull in play followed as players from both sides worked hard in the sun.
88 minutes in and a through ball from Archie had Harris & Tom Edwards in behind, Harris got their first strongly winning it off the keeper to the tap in and celebrate with a Ryan Giggs top off moment.
Rounding the game off Jack Tids put Tom Edwards in to make it 7-0.

Great work rate and team work versus a depleted Stoke but still had to go and win and take the unbeaten streak to 5.

South Brent FC 2 - 2 Hunter District A Star FC

Hunters started as clear favourites having won the reverse fixture 8-0 only a couple months ago. But Brent were determined to put what was probably the worst Sunday of the season behind them and Show top of the league Hunters what they were about.

Brent were dominant for the majority of the game. In the early stages of the 1st half Brent were creating all the chances and winning the battle all over the pitch. Several half chances went begging. The best clear cut chance came for Seb Moore who's work rate and link up play was top class. After an excellent Brent move he found himself with a half volley on his weaker left foot around 6 yards out but could only find the keeper instead of the back of the net. Several more decent Brent chances came and went, but around 30 minutes in a flicked header from Henri the hoover hatch found JJ Bryant in behind the right full back and he calmly finished in the bottom right corner to give Brent a thoroughly deserved 1-0 lead. Several more Brent half chances came and went, but Brent struggled to find the finish and the scoreline that there performance deserved. A few minutes before half time Archie Bowden had a free kick 20 yards out, but could only chip it for a conversion into the woods well beyond the goal. When attacking, Hunters were constantly thwarted by excellent defending, a good defensive shape and a desire to win 2nd balls from a re-surgent Brent team. Hunters as expected were always a threat, and in particular had the physical advantage from set pieces. The closest Hunters came in the 1st half was from a 2nd ball after a corner, a Hunter player reacted quickest and hit the bar.

Half Time 1-0 Brent

2nd half continued much as the 1st. In open play and chances created Brent were on top. But a failure to take the chances allowed Hunters back in the game. So many better than half chances for Brent again went begging. Hunters always looked dangerous, especially from set pieces, and around 70 minutes they won a free kick 20-25 yards out and there player (sorry didn't get name or number) scored a stunning free kick into the top left corner that no keeper in the land would have had a chance with. This only spurred Brent on, and with 15 minutes left Archie Bowden picked up the ball in the final 3rd and made a strong run inside the box and despatched the ball for 2-1 Brent. This was followed by several more good and half chances for Brent to put the game to bed. Unfortunately, none of these were taken and with only a few minutes remaining Hunters equalised following a Hunters corner. The following few minutes saw Hunters come closest to winning. Amazing credit goes to Brent Keeper Sam Northmore for 2 stunning saves in stoppage time. Firstly, a finger tip save to push over the bar from a Hunters long shot, and shortly after low to his right from 1 of the corners in the final minutes from Hunters.

If this game was scored on XG Brent would have won comfortably. But Football doesn't work like that, and Brent have to start taking a higher % of there chances to win these sort of games. But another excellent performance from Brent who are now unbeaten in 4 games.

🚨 Match Result - 13/4/25 🚨

South Brent Sundays 5 - 0 Tavistock Wanderers

Tavistock started the brighter and pushed Brent back during the first 5 minutes as Brent struggled to get going. The tide soon turned and Brent started to dominate the match. In particular Alfie Lewis-Frost, Danny Bryant, and Archie Bowden pulling the strings in attacking midfield areas. 15 minutes in Archie Bowden latched onto a threw ball, rounded the keeper only to blaze over the open goal (tight angle apparently 🤔). Bowden soon had Brent in front latching onto another threw ball and this time found the net with a cool finish after 20 minutes. The 2nd followed minutes later, after Weir and Bowden both hit the crossbar following a corner, captain Down reacted well to hit the net in a crowded penalty area. The game got scrappy for a while as a few tough tackles went in from both sides, and to Tavistocks credit they still had plenty of fight left in them. Tavistock mustered there only shot on target after a sloppy foul gave them a free kick 25 yards out, but was easily caught by Debutant GK Sam Northmore who had little to do in the Brent goal. When Tavistock did get the ball forward the were met with excellent defending, in particular Jack Burring impressed in his 1st game playing a more defensive position. The rest of the 1st half saw lots of half chances for Brent go begging, with D Bryant, Moore and Bowden having the best of chances.

Ht 2-0

Brent came out in the 2nd half much sharper and dominated from the off. There were lots of chances to score and pretty much every Brent player had a shot at some point. The 3rd goal came after 55 minutes, excellent cross from a JJ Bryant corner saw Charlie Weir run across and out jump the keeper to glance it into the back of the net. 4th followed after good work on the right by Kobi Durbin moved the ball inside to Alfie Lewis-Frost who found the bottom right corner from 25 yards. The 5th came Courtesy of a big header from Harris Macneil at the back post. Credit to Tavistock for keeping the score down with several goal line clearances and some good saves by their GK. Although Brent will be disappointed with some poor finishing.

Admiral Macbride 2nd's 0 - 1 South Brent Sundays

Brent went into this game hoping for back to back wins for the 1st time in 2025. Macbride are a team in form having won there previous games going into this one and probably went in as slight favourites. Brent were bolstered by Sunday debuts from clubmen Luke Puleston GK, and Chris Hill CDM, who both put in excellent displays.

Brent pressed high from the off and were agressive in 50/50's. As the game settled down after a scrappy opening 10 minutes, Brent started to get on top. Some superb work ethic and hold up play from lone striker Seb Moore helped Brent get good possession in the opposition half. Although the team struggled to find the quality in the final 3rd to make the most of their dominance, Brent did force a number of corners, free kicks and half chances. There was at least 3 corners following delicious balls in from Danny Bryant where Brent nearly took the lead and i’m still not sure how the ball stayed out of the net. There was also a free kick from Archie Bowden that went millimetres wide with the keeper rooted to the spot. When Macbride did come forward, they were met by a hard working Brent team and some excellent defending. Macbrides best moment if the 1st half came after good work down their right, the ball found it's way into the box and was poked goalwards, but was well read and comfortably saved by GK Puleston down to his right.

HT 0-0

Brent didn't start quite as bright in the 2nd half and Macbride were slightly more dominant in the 1st 10 minutes. A few fresh legs were brought on which did the trick immediately. From the the restart Pulestons goal kick found Tids on the left who controlled well on the turn, he was facing the wrong way and drinking a water bottle when the ball was kicked, he fed in the tireless Archie Bowden down the left Inside channel, Archie took the ball inside on his weaker right foot and played a threw Ball to Jack Hobbs, who despite looking 2nd favourite managed to beat the GK to ball to put Brent 1-0 up. Brent continued to look like the side most likely to score next. Hobbs had the ball in the net again shortly after but was ruled out for offside. There were good breakaway chances for Henri and Hobbs to give Brent an easier end to the game but a couple good saves and poor finishing kept Macbride in the game. Down the other end, Macbrides best chance of the half came from the left side, which again required Super Luke Puleston to make a save down to his right. With 5 minutes to go Archie Bowden was set away and 1 on 1 with the keeper, Only to completely forget to shoot and Macbride scrambled the ball away. Macbride did finish the stronger and on the front foot, forcing a number of corners and free kicks that had to be dealt with. But this was a grown up performance from a maturing Brent team who stood up to the physical side of the game well today. To keep a clean sheet against a side who have scored 17 goals in the last 3 games was particularly pleasing.

FT 0-1 to Brent

MOTM - very difficult to decide as so many had excellent games in a real team performance. Decided on 2 men of the match today. 2 lads who weren't 1st picks earlier in the season, but are now starting to show how much they want and deserve to be in the starting 11. Both were excellent today -

On Saturday, we put on a dominant display at home, securing a convincing 5-2 victory over Totnes & Dartington.

We started strong and took the lead 20 minutes in when Taylor Kasitz was brought down in the box. In-form attacker Jaydon Love-Holmes stepped up and made no mistake, smashing his penalty past the keeper to put us 1-0 up.

Our momentum continued as we doubled the lead through Chris Fisher. Ryan Bath played a long ball over the top from the right, and although the last defender tried to head it clear, he couldn’t prevent it from going into Fisher’s path. Fisher made no mistake, volleying the ball thunderously past the opposition goalkeeper into the bottom corner to make it 2-0.

Not long after, Love-Holmes turned provider, delivering a pinpoint corner that found the head of Kasitz. His bullet header left both the defenders and the goalkeeper with no chance, extending our advantage to 3-0 before half-time.

Early in the second half, we made it 4-0 with a well-worked move. Fisher held the ball up before playing it to Bath, who then found Josh Wesemann. Wesemann laid it off to Love-Holmes, who slotted home his second of the match.

However, a series of substitutions seemed to disrupt our rhythm, allowing Totnes & Dartington to pull two goals back.

We quickly regained control, though, and Chris Puleston won a corner before stepping up to take it. His delivery found Wesemann, whose powerful header was destined for the top corner—only for a defender on the line to block it with his hand. A red card was shown, and we were awarded a second penalty. Unfortunately for Wesemann, who has been knocking on the door for a goal in recent weeks, it wasn’t his moment. Instead, Love-Holmes stepped up again, calmly slotting home to complete his hat-trick and seal the 5-2 victory.

A brilliant attacking performance, securing another important three points ahead of our semi final this weekend!

Man of the went to Taylor Kasitz, who was outstanding in midfield, winning a penalty, scoring a goal, and putting in a dominant all round display that pushed us on to win the game.
