Itโ€™s one thing looking fastโ€ฆ๐Ÿ‘‡

Another game getting fast.

You ride consistently.

So why do you still feel like you're not quite where you should be?

Because doing a lot isn't the same as doing what you need.

โš ๏ธ You can ride 4 to 5 times a week and still be:
Going too hard on your easy days
Not hard enough on your key sessions
Defaulting to another tempo ride because it's easier
Missing strength work because cycling already takes up enough time
Under-fuelling the sessions that actually matter
Eating too much on the days you're not riding
Carrying fatigue from one session into the next
Sacrificing sleep and calling it recovery
Trying to make up missed sessions instead of accepting them and moving on

And because you're still riding consistently, you don't feel like you're doing anything wrong.

You're just not getting the return you should be getting from the effort you're putting in.

You've already demonstrated that you're willing to work.

What you need is a system that connects your training, strength, nutrition, recovery and real life so they actually pull in the same direction.

Because at some point, simply riding more stops being the answer.

The next level comes from making the work you already do work better.

More isn't always the answer.

Better is.

Before you plan next season, debrief this one. Most finish the season and immediately start thinking:

Before you plan next season, debrief this one.

Most finish the season and immediately start thinking:

New training plan.
New FTP target.
New bike.
More miles.
More intensity.
But there's a problem.

If you don't understand why this season went the way it did, you're likely to repeat it.

That's why I use a

Not just: โ€œWhat was my FTP?โ€

Or: โ€œHow many miles did I ride?โ€

We look at the whole picture.

Did you actually complete the work you planned?
Where did consistency break down?
Which sessions moved you forward?
Which ones were just training for the sake of training?

What improved?
What didn't?
Where did you perform well?
Where did you repeatedly struggle?

Did your weight and body composition move towards where you wanted them?
Were you fuelling enough to perform?
Did your nutrition support your goals โ€” or constantly fight against them?

What happened when work got busy?
What happened when family commitments increased?
How did stress affect your training?
What did you do when motivation disappeared?

๐‘๐ž๐œ๐จ๐ฏ๐ž๐ซ๐ฒ
Were you actually recovering?
Or was โ€œrecoveryโ€ sitting on the sofa until 11pm, scrolling and watching Netflix before doing it all again?

Because the purpose of a debrief isn't to beat yourself up over what went wrong, itโ€™s to identify the patterns.

The missed sessions.
The unnecessary fatigue.
The training that worked.
The training that didn't.
The habits that supported your performance.
And the ones that quietly sabotaged it.

Then you can build next season around reality not the version of yourself you hope you'll be.

So before you open Zwift and start planning next year's FTP targets

Debrief this season first.

Your next breakthrough might not require more training.

It might require understanding what stopped you getting the most from the training you were already doing.

โ€œIโ€™ve always been a bit of a floater.โ€

That was Tomโ€™s description of himself before coaching.

A senior aerospace leader.
Chartered engineer.
MBA.
20 years in aerospace.
Someone who already trained, cycled and went to the gym.

From the outside, he was doing well.

But there was no real purpose or direction behind it.

And thatโ€™s the difference between having a plan and actually changing how you live.

As Tom puts it:

20% is strategy.๏ฟฝ80% is ex*****on.

Anyone can give you a training plan.

You can get one from ChatGPT.

But a plan doesn't change you.

Ex*****on does.

And ex*****on becomes much easier when you understand:

Who you are
What you actually value
What drives your behaviour
Where you're getting in your own way
What standards you want to live by

Thatโ€™s why the work we do in Beyond isn't simply about getting fitter, stronger or hitting an event goal.

Itโ€™s about creating the identity, habits and systems that allow those results to become part of your lifestyle.

Tom summed it up perfectly:

Thatโ€™s the real transformation.

Not just a better body.

A better way of living.

And I'm incredibly proud of the work Tom has put in to get there.

03/09/2026

Progress isn't just what happened to your body.

It's what you became capable of doing yourself.

Because yes, your FTP going up matters.

Losing 5kg matters.

Riding your first 100 miles matters.

But there's another type of progress that doesn't show up on your Garmin.

You became the person who:

Trains consistently even when work is busy.
Knows when to push and when to back off instead of trying to make up missed sessions.
Fuels properly instead of trying to train hard while under-eating.
Can finish a stressful day without needing three hours of Netflix to switch off.
Can miss a session without turning one missed workout into a wasted week.
Has learned how to structure training around your life rather than constantly trying to squeeze life around your training.
Trusts the process instead of constantly looking for the next programme, workout or shortcut.

That's real progress.

Because the goal isn't to spend six months following a training plan and come out the other side fitter.

The goal is to build the capacity, discipline and self-management to keep performing long after the plan ends.

That's when training starts to change more than your body.

It changes what you believe you're capable of.

And eventually, the question stops being:

And becomes:

That's the kind of progress worth chasing.

You finished the season fitter than you started.

But if you're honest, thereโ€™s still a hell of a lot left on the table.

These are the patterns Iโ€™ve seen over the past few years.

You've got 60 minutes, so you pick a tempo ride. Not because it's the session you need but because it's there.

You get a workout done, feel productiveโ€ฆ but weeks later, your fitness hasn't moved like you expected.

Monday gets busy, you miss Tuesday's session, so Wednesday becomes a harder session to compensate. Now you're fatigued, Thursdayโ€™s session suffers, Friday you're still carrying the fatigue.

One missed session has effectively cost you three.

Finish work.
Eat.
Sit on the sofa at 8pm.
Watch TV until 11pm.
Scroll your phone.
Go to bed.
Repeat.

That's not recovery.

And when you're already trying to balance a demanding career, family, training and everything else life throws at you, these patterns add up.

The frustrating part is that none of these decisions are bad, theyโ€™re completely understandable.

But they're also why you can spend another year:

Training consistently 'enough'
Riding more miles
Getting a little fitter
Maybe losing a few kilos
And still feeling like you're capable of so much more.

The problem isn't effort.

It's that your training, nutrition, recovery and life aren't working together.

You don't need to train harder.

You need to stop letting the demands of your life dictate the quality of your training.

Because the goal isn't to simply become fitter.

It's to become the version of you you know you're capable of becoming.
