Section Win
Visited Map Marston fields fishery today to fish the Wednesday Open for my first ever visit. I drew peg 16 on Oak, a lake that hasn’t been fished in matches before. The match was split across lakes Elm and Oak with 16 fishing.
I set up everything to be fair as I wasn’t too sure how the pool would fish but guessed the maggot feeder would be a good start as it does well on the other pools.
I spent the first 2 hours without a sign. Most of my time was spent on the feeder but did try the pole lines without any bites. My first fish came on the maggot feeder from about 3/4 quarters across. A nice looking 6lb mirror was welcomed. I then spent another hour or so searching the far side, edging closer to the bank before I caught my 2nd fish, a similar sized carp. Another came but on pellets on the method.
In the last hour, the area where I had been chucking the maggot feeder seemed to switch on, either that or the fish had moved down pool.
I finished with 26lb 12oz to win my section and finish 3rd on Oak pool. Nice to get some money for a decent days fishing.
I will definitely be going back in the near future to fish the opens again. It’s a lovely venue and the fish were immaculate. The owners were very welcoming and good to share info on the pools. Also the grub from the cafe was spot on.
I used my 10ft Free Spirit CTX feeder rod, with the 1oz tip. Shimano Aero BB 4000 reel with 8lb Drennan mainline, a 20g Drennan maggot feeder and a pre-tide Guru 12” hook length of 0.16 to to size 16 hook.
