As I sat for my morning yoga practice today in my pjs, I looked around the room I practise in. It’s also my wardrobe, ironing room, and storage space. There were clothes, hats, clothes horses, hair accessories, crystal bowls, and all the usual bits and pieces scattered around.
It was far from the calm, perfectly organised yoga space we often see online.
But once I got onto my mat, none of that really mattered. I was just there, breathing and moving.
Today, I stepped away from my usual Hatha practice and revisited my old Ashtanga practice. It felt a little disjointed, and I couldn’t remember the full sequence, but I didn’t care. I was practising, I was present, and I was enjoying it.
It reminded me that our yoga practice doesn’t need to be perfect. We don’t need the perfect space, the perfect routine, or even the perfect time of day.
Sometimes, all we need is to get onto our mat, take a few breaths, and move in a way that feels right for us in that moment.
Those small moments matter.
They all form part of the practice.
So if your practice feels a little messy, or life feels a little chaotic around you, that’s okay. Show up anyway, take a breath, and trust the process.
