🛶 A few highlights from our North Wales adventure! 🏕️

Over the August Bank Holiday, members of Birmingham Canoe Club headed to North Wales for a weekend of camping, paddling and plenty of fun.

From Pontcysyllte Aqueduct to Grade 2 white water on the River Dee, advanced paddling at Tryweryn and some park & play at Mile End Mill, there was something for everyone.

🎥 Here’s a little preview of some of the weekend’s photos — and you can see the full photo collection on our website:

Fancy getting involved? You don’t have to be an experienced paddler to join us. We welcome beginners and people of all abilities, and our experienced members and coaches will help you build your skills and confidence.

And if white water looks a bit daunting, don’t worry! Next week we’re back in the pool, where you can learn and practise paddling and rescue skills in lovely warm water. 🏊‍♂️🛶

Fancy trying something a bit different? 🏄‍♀️

Here’s Ruth giving paddle boarding a go at Edgbaston Reservoir, with a little help from Di getting her up on her feet! 😆

We welcome paddle boarders (SUP paddlers) at Birmingham Canoe Club too. You’ll need to bring your own board, but you can join in with the same friendly club sessions alongside our kayakers and canoeists.

Even though it might be tempting to jump into the water on a hot day, it's worth remembering that water temperatures can still be surprisingly cold, even in summer.

Cold water shock remains a real risk, so always think before you enter the water and be prepared for the conditions.

Take a look at Paddle UK's infographic below for some simple cold water safety advice 🛶💙

A great day out at Symonds Yat 🛶☀️

Club members enjoyed a mix of canoeing and kayaking, with plenty of opportunities to develop skills along the way. We also spent some time practising rescues using throw lines — an important skill that helps keep paddlers safe on the water.

Thanks to Phil for leading the trip, and to Vanessa, Gus, Di and Jamie for the photos and videos 📸🎥💙

Here's Lucy and Nellie enjoying an evening on a paddle board at Edgbaston Reservoir.

We welcome paddle boarders (SUP paddlers) too. At the moment you'll need to bring your own board, but you'll still be part of the same friendly club sessions.

A lovely evening down at Edgbaston Reservoir 🛶☀️

Great weather, lots of paddling, and it’s been brilliant to see so many new people coming along to try the club over the last few weeks.

A big thank you as well to all our members who’ve helped welcome and support newer paddlers on the water 💙

Not sure what to wear for paddling? 🛶☀️

Here are a few simple dos and don’ts for spring and summer sessions at Edgbaston Reservoir.

Alongside the kit mentioned in the video, lightweight trainers you don’t mind getting wet and a quick-drying t-shirt are also great options 👍

We also have club cags available to borrow in a range of sizes — they’re lightweight waterproof paddling tops that help keep you warm and dry from wind and splashes while you’re on the water.
