A huge thank you to Sandwell council and their Gifted and talented programme for the support provided to two of our rising stars! With the continued support our athletes can flourish and fulfil their sporting dreams. Well done to the dynamic duo from all at WWC🏋️‍♀️

💚 We’re so proud of two local lads Rajan and Yuvi who shone in the recent British Weightlifting Championships in Leeds.

Rajan from Smethwick and Yuvi from Tipton both received funding to help support their passions through the Sandwell Gifted and Talented programme 💫

🏋️ Rajan was awarded silver in the under 15s 61kg class, winning the sn**ch and just missing out on the gold in clean and jerk
🏋️ Yuvi competed in the under 15s 55kg class in the sn**ch and clean and jerk and came overall 2nd

🤩 Rajan has his sights set on representing Team GB and winning international competitions. He said: “I love training and the friends I have made at Warley Weightlifting Club. I couldn’t have done it without the support of my coaches, family and the Gifted and Talented programme which gave me the resources to buy equipment and compete at competitions around the country.”

🏅 Yuvi added: “Winning medals at the British Weightlifting Championships as I’ve grown up has meant a lot to me. As I’m getting older, the sport is becoming more and more competitive. The funding I am receiving from the Gifted and Talented programme is helping me financially support my training! It helps with travel, clothing and equipment costs! My aim in the future is to continue my training and qualify for the European Championships.”

Another good performance by the clubs youngsters and seniors at the West Mids Open competition held on the 21st July at Central Staff CrossFit Club. Excellent performance by Yuvi, Rajan and Abul in obtaining the gold medals and a well done to Aaron for his respectable total in a tough fought battle for forth place. Keep it up and onto the British boys!💪

Congratulations to Rajan for being merited with the 'Brian Hamill Award' for his contribution to the club and for his continued hard work and effort in Weightlifting. In the short period that Rajan has taken up the sport he has faced some obstacles and challenges but he has shown great character and persevered to compete and obtain medals at the national junior competitions.
