Parents need to realise why certain parents step up to coach in the first place...

"I never set out to be a football coach. The team was about to fold at U6 — the original coach already had a U14 side. I didn’t want to see the kids disappointed, so I stepped in. No experience. No grand plans. Just a mum who didn’t want to let them down.

Suddenly, I was responsible for 19 children. Just me and my partner helping out — and even now, at U11, no other parents have stepped up. My partner can’t manage it anymore… so it’s just me now.

I had to cut the squad to 10. It broke my heart. I still feel the guilt — but I couldn’t manage it all.

What people don’t see is the time. The missed weekends. The endless home conversations that revolve around training, kit, fixtures. Meanwhile, some parents disappear for the weekend without a second thought. We coaches stay — we turn down work, cancel plans, just to be there.

It’s a huge commitment. But it could be so much easier if even one or two parents stepped in.

To every coach doing it alone — you’re doing amazing.
And to the parents — we don’t need you to do it all. We just need you to help. ❤️
