We are now only two days away from one of the highlights of the clubs year, the Annual Memorial Cricket Day.

This will be the 6th time we have held our memorial cricket day and this year, in addition to remembering Dave Calvert we will also be paying tribute to Pete Stark who passed away suddenly and tragically early this year.

Both Dave and Pete were part of both Slingsby and Hovingham Cricket Clubs and this year the format of the day will be a bit different with 4 teams taking part.

The day will start at 12pm with the first match taking place between the Dave Calvert XI and a Hovingham CC XI followed by the second semi-final between the Pete Stark XI and a Slingsby CC XI.

The two winning teams will then contest the final.

Food, a raffle and post match entertainment are all in place so we can have a fantastic day, raise money for an incredible charity and remember and pay tribute to two wonderful members of our community.

Yorkshire Air Ambulance recently came down to Slingsby Sports Club for a presentation to mark the fantastic £10,502.72 raised at this year’s charity cricket match. 🚁

That takes the total raised across the last two years to an incredible £15,675.72!

A huge thank you to all the businesses, sponsors, volunteers, players and individuals who supported the day and showed such incredible generosity. We couldn’t have done it without you.

Thank you so much to everyone who came along to support us yesterday. We’re absolutely delighted to have raised an astonishing £10,500 for Yorkshire Air Ambulance ! 🚁💛

On the pitch, congratulations to George Wainwright’s Ryedale Rockets, who defeated Archie Goodwill’s Howardian Hitters, bringing their two-year winning run to an end in a fantastic match.

A huge thank you to Dewhirst Farming Group for donating the pigs, The Fairfax Arms for cooking and serving the delicious hog roast, Yorvale for donating their fantastic ice creams, and Yorkshire Wolds Apple Juice for keeping the players hydrated throughout the day.

Thank you also to Ian Mosey & McBeath Property Consultancy for sponsoring the match shirts, Re-Wind York Covers Band for keeping the party going into the evening, and McClarrons Ltd for generously providing the insurance cover for the event.

A special thank you goes to all of the volunteers at Slingsby Sports Club, who worked tirelessly behind the bar all day, and to everyone else who gave up their time to help make the event such a success.

🏏 A brilliant way to round off a fantastic sporting weekend!

On Sunday 12th July, our friends at Slingsby Sports Club are hosting the Slingsby Charity Cricket Match, raising money for the incredible Yorkshire Air Ambulance.

If you're cheering on the Three Lions against Norway in the World Cup quarter-final on Saturday evening 🏆⚽, why not keep the sporting spirit going by heading over to Slingsby Sports Club on Sunday from 1pm?

There'll be:

🍖 Hog roast
🍺 Bar
🎟️ Raffle
🔨 Auction
🎶 Live band

As a park, we know just how important Yorkshire Air Ambulance is. Last year, not long after this annual event, one of our younger guests became seriously unwell and needed their help. Seeing first-hand the care they provide reminded us just how invaluable this life-saving charity is, and why events like this matter so much.

Whether you're staying with us or live locally, we'd love to see plenty of people supporting a fantastic village event and helping to raise funds for an amazing cause.

Here's hoping the Three Lions can get the weekend off to the perfect start on Saturday, before everyone enjoys a great afternoon of cricket on Sunday! ⚽🏏❤️
