⭐️Skipton and Barnoldswick Body Control Pilates is the leading Pilates organisation in the UK and is renowned worldwide as a leading Pilates education provider producing quality, in-depth Pilates training. As a Body Control Pilates Instructor, I uphold the integrity of the Pilates Method and continuously continue my training to offer specialised teaching for all types of people of different ages, physical abilities or sporting goals. It is my passion to help people to move freely, without pain and to gain knowledge and expertise in the function of their own movement to enhance their daily lives or sporting careers. Pilates works on the deep architectural structure of the body, achieving 'core stability'. It is known to help alleviate pain, improve posture, joint range of movement, flexibility and strength. Exercises can target specific problem areas but always in relation to the rest of the body. Pilates is a non-impact, safe form of exercise which connects mind and body - this awareness of how your body is moving and working teaches you to be in control of your body, allowing you to handle stress more effectively and achieve relaxation more easily. It also allows for good functional movement in your daily life or to enhance your sporting activities and goals. As a Body Control Pilates teacher, I am continuously developing my training and knowledge and so far specialise in the following areas:

✨Level 3 Matwork
✨Hypermobility
✨Reformer
✨Hypopressives
✨Chronic Low Back Pain
✨Pre and Post
✨Bone Health and Osteoporosis
✨Hip and Shoulder issues
✨Equine Pilates
✨Voice production and performance through movement
✨HIPP (High Intensity Power Pilates)

What’s so good about studio sessions? ✨

It’s the personalised approach.

In a studio session, you’re not simply following an exercise class where everyone is doing the same movements, regardless of whether they’re right for their body, their needs or their goals.

Instead, your programme is designed specifically for you.

Your body.
Your needs.
Your goals.

With small sessions — such as a duo — you still have plenty of individual guidance and support from me. I can watch how you move, make adjustments, offer feedback and help you get the most out of your programme.

But it’s not just about having someone guide you through the exercises.

Over time, you begin to develop a deeper understanding of your own body.

You learn what each movement should feel like.

You start to recognise when something feels right — and when it doesn’t.
You understand the purpose behind the exercises and how to move with greater awareness and control.

And ultimately, you begin to take ownership of your movement.

That awareness doesn’t have to stay in the studio.

The aim is to help you carry that understanding into everyday life — becoming more aware of how you move, how you use your body, and how you can support it beyond your sessions.

It’s not just exercise. It’s learning to understand and move your body better.

Studio and duo Reformer sessions are available on Tuesday and Thursday afternoons with private sessions available on Monday and Wednesday afternoons and evenings by arrangement.

Contact me to book or for more info! I’d love to introduce you to the Studio Apparatus or further your training! ☺️

Now starting 9th September!!!

Did you know that over 62% of women experience incontinence issues (UI) within the UK…..?

That is the number recorded by the NHS and that is only the women who have reported it so the real number could be much higher….

✨Hypopressives can help with:

Incontinence
Diastais Recti
pelvic floor issues
Back pain
Posture

And so much more so that you can live the way you want to!

I can’t tell you how much I am constantly impressed with the results that are gained from just a short time of regular Hypoprepssives practice each day.

As a peri-menopausal woman, I myself have had my own challenges with stress incontinence as my hormones have changed and my body is getting older.

For me, along with my Pilates practice and regular waking and movement, It’s been in the last 6 months since practicing my Hypopressives for just 5 or 10 minutes a day that I’ve really noticed a difference. I no longer experience any leakage on coughing or sneezing – it just doesn’t happen any more! Also, no more getting up several times a night to pee…. Yippee!

Hypopressives is a very gentle breathing technique which incorporates fascial tensioning and stretching. By changing intra abdominal pressure we create a fascial lift through the pelvic floor which helps to balance out all the internal organs so that they can function as they should.

🌟I’m running a new 8 week course of Hypopressives classes starting next Wednesday 2nd September in Barnoldswick.

I also offer private Hypopressives sessions both in person and online.

How important are the feet for the function of the rest of the body?

The foot has 26 bones and 33 joints. That allows for an awful lot of movement!

The foot is designed to navigate different terrain and the way we use our feet has a huge impact further up the kinetic chain.

What does this mean? It means that when you activate the foot, especially when walking and during movement it will help to activate further up the body through the legs into the pelvis, the glutes which turn will help the upper body to move well.

Joseph Pilates himself saw the importance of footwork and even designed apparatus specifically for the feet; the foot corrector and the toe gizmo.

When working on the reformer, Tower, Cadillac or Wunda chair, footwork is essential for that connection into the rest of the body.

This footwork also starts on the mat with some basic exercises and then adding in resistance with bands or using balls for movement and release.

If you’d like to find out more and start to feel that connection from your feet into the rest of the body book a session using the link in my bio.

Happy walking!😊

Nothing like a good reset.

What an amazing couple of weeks in Cornwall.

My dad was Cornish, and I’ve been coming to my granny’s home and this part of the world since I was born. It always feels like coming home.

This trip was a time for me to reset, recharge and come back to myself.

For me, that means healthy movement and getting outside — lots of walking, climbing, swimming, sea air and being in nature. Barefoot whenever possible, obviously!

Camping brings the added bonus of plenty of squatting and getting up and down from the ground! (Great for those lower limb joints and pelvic health!).

What could be better than two weeks of healthy movement in the outdoors with the Cornish light, sea air and coastal walks to recharge. I feel energised and ready to go.

Now, I can’t wait to bring that energy back to my clients and get moving together. ☺️
