Two statement wins for the Rams as both sides climb to second.
After a rain-soaked week, cricket looked unlikely. Huge credit to our ground staff for getting the game on, and to Sharow for ensuring the 2nd XI fixture went ahead.
After Winning the toss and electing to bowl, the 1st XI started strongly. Debutant Frank Binns and Cal Egg built pressure from the outset, restricting the Forest batters. The breakthrough came via first-change bowlers Cal Lockett and Damo, leaving Forest 45-2 after 15 overs.
Binns and Egg returned for a second spell, with Frank claiming the key wickets of the Forest captain and number five, his first wickets for the 1st XI. Egg was equally impressive, picking up two wickets of his own, while Oli Metcalfe also impressed taking a brace as Forest were dismissed for 137 on a batting surface that was playing true.
The chase was one-way traffic. Rap set the tone with a blistering innings, bringing up his fourth 50 of the season, while Dyl Canny provided excellent support at the top of the order. The pair saw the Rams home comfortably, finishing unbeaten on 72* and 39* respectively.
The 2nd XI were involved in a thriller away at Sharow. The hosts posted a competitive 221, with Will Slater and Isaac Reeday both taking two wickets, while Seb Eastell also claimed a brace.
The Rams lost two key wickets early but Captain Twitts and vice Sean steadied the ship, with Twitts recording another half-century before Sean departed for 18, leaving the Rams still needing 140 runs.
Enter Seb Eastell - Wharfedaleโs own Arnold Schwarzenegger. He launched his first four deliveries for 6 and completely changed the momentum of the game. Whatever he had for breakfast, the rest of us want some.
Seb powered his way to his maiden senior half-century before before departing for an excellent 68. The Rams appeared in control at 175-5, but four quick wickets turned the game on its head, leaving them struggling at 205-9. With the match in the balance, Will Slater stood firm, anchoring the innings alongside the experienced Tom Eggleston. The pair guided the Rams home, finishing unbeaten on 26* and 6* respectively.
