On my latest late-night jolly… I mean work meeting 😂, I got off the train in Nottingham and, on my way to the hotel, I passed the amazing Mary Earps artwork.

It got me thinking…

Could the next female football superstar be one of our Swifts girls? 👀

Why not?

We’ve got some incredibly talented girls at Swifts JFC, and who knows where their football journey could take them. The important thing is that they dream big, work hard, enjoy their football and believe in themselves. 💪⚽️

You never know where that dream might lead…

⚽️💙💛 Another Friday evening can only mean one thing… Swifts Girls Football! 💛💙⚽️

In a break from tradition, the girls were split into their correct age groups from the off tonight. It’s very strange not having everyone together, but this new setup will only help the girls develop and progress as they continue to grow. 💪⚽️

Both groups started with a warm-up alongside their coaches before getting stuck into some training.

🔵🟡 U9s

The U9s worked on some ball control tonight. It’s fantastic to see this group coming along so well, and even better to see the numbers continuing to grow! 🙌

We also managed to snag a new coach to assist Gav this evening, which is brilliant news for the team. 👏

🔵🟡 U11s

It was great to have Jason back in the thick of the action tonight following his recent operation.

I’m very pleased to report it was a success and he’s now back to the standard 5 toes on each foot! 🦶🤣

The U11s worked on strength, as well as winning and shielding the ball without relying on the arms — something that’s definitely harder than it sounds!

We also worked on some quick kick-in routines and looked at how we can make better use of these situations.

H also had some one-to-one training with Big Baker (Evie). A massive thank you for coming down and giving her a hand — it’s massively appreciated! ❤️👏

Another great evening of football, learning, development and, most importantly, having fun together.

🌟 Grassroots Coaching – What It Really Means

Being a girls’ football coach isn’t all about the glory. Yes, winning feels good — of course it does — but the real reward is something deeper. It’s knowing you’ve helped a group of girls, many of whom started as strangers, connect, grow, and find joy in something they love.

It’s watching confidence build.
It’s seeing friendships form.
It’s witnessing those moments where a girl realises, “I can do this.”

Grassroots football is where belief starts. It’s where girls learn they belong on the pitch just as much as anyone else — and they prove it every single week.

I won’t forget my time as a grassroots coach. Not for the results, not for the trophies, but for the girls who showed up, worked hard, supported each other, and played with pride. I’m proud of every single one of them.

They belong.
They matter.
And they’re only just getting started.
