On a warm sunny Saturday afternoon the Imps turned out for their final home game of the season with a point to prove, aiming to get their first win of the season... they did not disappoint.
Straight from the first whistle, the Imps showed their desire to press the ball in midfield and release Ryan Ellwood to run at Billinghay's defence where ever possible.
A lovely passing move starting from the defence playing out from a short goal kick allowed Ryan to find space down the left channel and picking out Jake just in side the penalty area for a brilliantly taking side footed shot. 1 - 0
The Imps continued to push forward, over powering Billinghay in the midfield and down both wings with Liam and Ben showing attacking threats while not forgetting their defensive duties.
A brilliant through ball over the top left Billinghay's two central defenders flat footed allowing Ryan to run clean through on goal leaving their goalkeeper no choice but to bring him down for the clear obvious penalty, which Ryan calmly slotted away. 2 - 0
The rest of the half continued in the same way with our goalkeeper kelsey having very little to do as the defensive unit was well managed by Alfie.
The half time team talk was full of praise and offered a minor technical change with the wingers asking to drop in and cover in midfield so the Imps could continue to over power and out play Billinghay midfield.
This advice proved vital as it allowed John the time to pick a wonderful pass for Ryan to run on to score his 2nd goal of the game with a low driven shot in to the bottom corner. 3 - 0
With this Billinghay made some substitutions and change their formation to try and get a foot hold in the game. This seemed to pay off as they managed to score a goal from a free kick which kelsey saved but couldn't readjust himself for the rebound. 3 - 1
Billinghay continued to push forward and were awarded a soft penalty for a push in the back. Their player stepped up and shot to the keepers left but kelsey guessed correctly and brilliantly saved it.
Minutes later John supplied his second assist of the game by whipping a lopped ball into Ryan's feet who took a moment to pick his spot to complete his well deserved hat trick. 4 - 1
Billinghay continued to attack and managed to break the Imp's defensive line, scoring in the bottom corner. 4 - 2
The Imps made their final substitutions to replace tired legs and kill the game off and when the final whistle came the Imps were worthy winners
The management decided that every player was worthy of man of the match award as everyone played to their full potential and showed fight throughout the game
Kelsey got the man of the match beers for his penalty save and using Jordan pickford's game management skills β½οΈ
