Our final league match this season 🥲

Milstead welcomed Addington Village CC for our last home league of the season

After losing the toss, the opposition decided to bat on a hard wicket with favourable batting conditions!

Pete Morrell (2-37 off 9) got an early breakthrough however a steady partnership from Addington’s number 1 and 3 pushed the score along at a steady rate up until the first drinks break. Milstead rallied after drinks and picked up vital wickets through Kulvinder, Tooke and Sutcliffe leaving the opposition 138-6. Kulvinder finished with figures of 5-27 off 8.4 overs and Tooke 1-19 off 9 and limited Addington to 185 all out from their overs. A great comeback from the home team 👏

Milstead attempted to start aggressively which was another positive sign however they did lose both Morrell and Mallows with the score 14-2. Tooke joined Eddie Rowe and began to rebuild with a 52 run partnership before the latter was run out. Partnerships were key at this stage with Tooke and Yates putting on 28 followed by Tooke and Gooding with 45 pushing the score to 137-5. Milstead required 48 runs off the final 8 overs and importantly kept themselves in with a chance right to end. Tooke batted well for 84 (10 fours and 1 six) however couldn’t quite see the team over the line, departing 22 runs short of the target. Milstead finished on 173 and lost by 12 runs!

A great performance by the boys especially chasing a target under challenging conditions. Another match where Milstead have given a Saturday league team a run for the money and had chances to win the game. Massively proud 👏

Its our last home league game 😪

We would really welcome some big support for the last one 🫶
Our team,commitee members,grounds workers, tea ladies and bar staff have all worked so hard this season it would be great to see you all.

Bring a picnic,bring family and friends and enjoy what we think is the best view on a Sunday.

Bar will be stocked as always 😉

Milstead travelled to Linton Park on a warm Sunday afternoon for their next league game.

After losing the toss, Milstead were put into bat with a target of 200+ in mind.

Pete Morrell got the innings off to another aggressive start seeing Milstead reach 41-1 off 10 overs. A 68 run partnership between Morrell and Tooke pushed Milstead’s score on to 109-2 before Morrell was bowled for a well made 59 off 61 balls (10 boundaries and first league 50 of the season). A flurry of wickets in the middle left Milstead 139-6 off 26 overs. Tooke reached his 4th Half-Century of the season before being caught for 57. Some big hitting down the order from Mallows (22) and Kaler (14) gave some impetus towards the end of the innings which pushed the score to 192 all out from 35 overs.

Morrell (0-25 off 9) and Burrows (1-17 off 5) kept things tight in their opening spells and were unlucky not to pick up a few more wickets. The run rate was gradually climbing for the home team who struggled to find the boundaries and at the halfway stage were 63-3 needing a further 130 runs from the final 20 overs to win. Glen Rawson batted well for 51 however, bar a few cameos from the lower order Linton struggled to keep up with the rate.

Mallows picked up (3-36 off 9 overs), Kaler (2-27 off 8 overs) and 1 a piece for burrows, Rowe and Tyler with his first league wicket!

A great win by 47 runs for Milstead which moves us up to 6th in the league with two games left to play

Milstead welcomed Harvel CC on Sunday for their next league match.

After winning the toss, captain Tooke elected to bat first with the aim of posting 180+ on what looked like a good batting wicket.

Milstead got off to a more aggressive start this week, with Pete Morrell (26 off 30 including 4 four’s and 1 six) regularly finding the boundary early on. From a position of 30-0 Milstead then found themselves 38-5 with a collapse looking likely. Tooke batted the remainder of the innings with support from Neil Burnop (19) and ended up 69 not out with 11 fours and 1 six allowing the home team to post 147. Frustratingly Milstead didn’t manage to bat their full allocation of overs and were 50 runs short of a par score.

Morrell (1-25 off 9) and Yates (0-34 off 9) kept things tight in their opening spells and were unlucky not to pick up 2 or 3 more wickets with a few half chances going down. At the half way stage the game was still in reach for Milstead not only down to the opening bowlers spells but a much improved fielding display stopping vital runs.

Tooke replaced Yates after drinks and was able to slow the run rate further and pick up regular wickets. A spell of 9 overs, 4-31 kept things interesting for the home team but ultimately not enough runs were scored and Milstead succumbed to a 4 wicket defeat.

We achieve 5 bonus points however drop to 8th in the league. Although a loss, our intensity in the field was clear to see and for the first time this season we didn’t stop until the final ball.
