Milstead’s league campaign got up and running on Sunday with a 42 run win over Holborough Anchorians!

After losing the toss Milstead were put into bat on a green wicket. With overcast conditions it was an ideal time to be bowling.

Openers Ryan Mallows (20 off 51) and Kieran Gooding (11 off 20) got the innings off to a steady start and done well to see off the new ball. An opening stand of 22 was encouraging to see based on previous weeks batting displays. Jake Burton arrived at the crease and again dug in well for 24 balls before being caught behind.

Milstead’s captain Alex Tooke came in at number 4 and started to push things along. Unfortunately Milstead went from 52-3 to 78-7 in the 27th over. Something special was needed to give Milstead a fighting chance of putting a respectable target on the board. In came Pete Morrell at number 9 and alongside Tooke pushed the score on through clever running and regular boundaries. A 107 run partnership between the two pushed Milstead to a commanding 185-7 off their 40 overs. Tooke finished on 92 not out from 82 balls (8 fours & 3 sixes) and Morrell on 26 not out from 32 balls (2 fours & 1 six)

Milstead opening bowling pair of Pete Morrell (3-39 off 9) and George Burrows (1-19 off 7) got the hosts off to a superb start with some excellent line and length bowling, including a great catch from Luke Whitehouse. The oppositions middle order attempted to keep them in the game but some more tight bowling from Mallows (2-33 off 9) and Whitehouse (2-29 off 6) alongside a great boundary catch from Yates ensured this didn’t happen. Yates and Tooke finished the innings off with a wicket each Leaving Holborough all out for 143!

Milstead move up to 5th in the league
after picking up the full 16 points 🙌

A BIG shout out to the 11 players who really dug in deep when needed! Teas were spot on as usual 👏 and of course are resident fan base who are always there to support!

Milstead traveled to Marden CC for their third league game of the season on Sunday.

After losing the toss Milstead were put into bat on a hard surface however found themselves in early difficulty, not for the first time this season at 10-3 off the first 6 overs. The top order found it difficult to rotate the strike which has been a struggle this season. Alex Tooke was able to knuckle down and increase the run rate through rotating the strike and boundaries. Both Luke Whitehouse (22 off 34 balls), Harchit Shah (21 off 16 balls) and Michael Yates (12 off 6 balls (with a broken toe) showed resistance to support Tooke who ended up 69 not out from 66 balls including 12 boundaries and took Milstead to a score of 183 all out from 37 overs.

Milstead were 50 runs short on what was easily a 225+ wicket!

Frustratingly, Milstead’s bowlers were not at the races and Marden chased down their score inside 21 overs for the loss of 2 wickets with a great knock from opener William Bacon who was 74 not out and played some lovely cricket shots throughout 👏

Milstead is currently sitting 7th in the league which is very positive. Even without a win on the board the team has picked up regular bonus points in all three league games to date 👏

Thanks to all players, especially Bill who made his debut for the club! As always a big thanks to Kerri, Steve and Sue for their support .
