Congratulations to Peter Rothwell, winner of the Wrest Park June AC Advanced tournament.

"Phew! What a scorcher", was the famous headline in The Sun newspaper when the UK experienced one of its hottest summers on record in 1976. In the same year, Wrest Park CC held the UK's first mid-week A-class Advanced Tournament. In recognition of its inception having since spawned many similar events at other clubs, the winner of the WP June AC tournament is awarded a wooden acorn trophy, because "Mighty oaks from little acorns grow."

The 50th anniversary of this tournament coincidentally was also marked by very hot weather but several pop-up gazebos provided much needed shade between turns and lots of ice and cold drinks kept players cool and well hydrated, enabling them to enjoy the game safely.

Peter's wins in this tournament earned him a handicap reduction to -0.5 and he moves up to 69th in the UK AC rankings in just his third year of competitive play.

Congratulations to Peter Rothwell (Wrest Park) who won the EACF AC Club Champions Day A-class tournament.

Clubs who are part of the East Anglian Croquet Federation are entitled to send the previous year's winners of their AC open level-play advanced club competitions to contest the Lynnsport Shield. This year the tournament was kindly hosted by Watford (Cassiobury) Croquet Club and it is the second year in a row that a Wrest Park member has won the trophy.

Congratulations to Nick Archer (Watford) who won the GC Open Series Tournament at Wrest Park on 30/31 May.

Tournament manager Richard Keighley presented Nick with his prize of a bottle of wine and a glass engraved with the Wrest Park CC logo.

2026 Charity 1-ball competition
WPCC's qualifying heat for the Charity 1-ball competition was held at Wrest Park on Saturday 25 April. This year's charity is Save The Children and each player wore something red to represent the charity's brand colour.
Congratulations to George Collin who emerged victorious with 5 wins from 7 games and the best net hoop score.
More importantly, a total of £160 was raised for donation to Save The Children. Thank you to all the players.

Wrest Park Croquet Club is a community sports club established for our members to play and enjoy the game of croquet.

We are located within the public grounds of Wrest Park, an English Heritage country estate in central Bedfordshire in the UK, approximately 50 miles north of London. With good road connections from both the M1 and A1, we are well placed to serve members in any of the surrounding counties of Beds, Bucks, Herts and Northants.

Croquet is a great sport, and our club provides an environment to enjoy it both socially and competitively. For new members, we offer all the equipment, coaching, and playing facilities you’ll need to get going. For more experienced players we offer the chance to play competitively in tournaments and league matches.

We are an unincorporated body and a small committee of members manages all the club’s activities and facilities.
