🚨 Jiu-Jitsu is coming to Sidmouth! 🚨

After receiving great interest earlier this year, we can finally announce that Jiu-Jitsu will be added to the Ultrafit Training Club timetable next month 🥋

Josh will be coaching these sessions and running classes for adults (white to blue belt fundamentals class) as well as offering a youth programme focusing on using Jiu-Jitsu for self-defence.

If you're unfamiliar with it, Jiu-Jitsu incorporates grappling/wrestling/submission techniques to effectively control opponents without the use of strikes - making it a very safe martial art to practice as a beginner, with the main emphasis being on acquiring technical skills rather than using strength alone.

It's been described as 'human chess' by many, and is a great form of exercise, self-defence and community wrapped into one!

We'll also be adding a Boxing Padwork/Boxercise style class to our timetable in November, so keep your eyes peeled.

If you are over the age of 60+, or have a parent, friend or relative who fits into that bracket and could benefit from guided exercise, this post is for you ⬇️

We are excited to announce the launch of a new class specifically for those aged 60+, providing strength training in a dedicated, safe environment with supportive instructors.

Many studies have proven to show how important it is to incorporate resistance training for individuals over the age of 60. Here are two such examples:

A. Found that strength training in older individuals lowers risk of 'all-cause' death - .https://pubmed.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/38831478/

B. Found that 1 year of strength training provides lasting results for the following 3 years, even if you stop training - https://bmjopensem.bmj.com/content/10/2/e001899

These sessions will be facilitated by Becky Procter & Nikki Huntwood at Ultrafit Training Club and will be designed to meet you exactly where you are at in terms of your current level of strength, fitness and mobility.

As the winter season approaches, UTC has begun working with various local clubs and providing strength & conditioning sessions at our facility.

Our aim:

• Providing education on the benefits of strength training for all athletes - hobbyists and competitive alike.

• Guiding members through structured programmes that they can progress with over time.

• Target the muscle groups used in the sport for performance benefits as well as decreasing the risk of injury.

• Support consistency in the team over the winter months.

Mondays, Wednesdays & Fridays at 06.15 🌅 powered by .htc

What goes down? 🏋🏻

Hybrid classes start with 20 minutes of strength training (Compound lifts - Squats, Deadlifts, Bench Press, Pull-Ups, Rows etc) aiming to progress your overall strength.

Followed by a 20 minute Metcon (metabolic conditioning) or in simpler terms, a short challenge based workout requiring use of various energy systems. This mini-workout is different every time to keep things fresh and to keep your body guessing.

Every person is catered for in HYBRID and there is always a viable alternative provided for every movement. So If you feel like your current level of fitness/ability is a barrier to joining for a class, we’ll meet you where you’re at.
