MATCH REPORT 07/03/26: BRIXHAM RFC 55, SIDMOUTH 1ST XV 31

Sidmouth Battle Hard in Brixham Despite Defeat:

​Sidmouth 1st XV faced a stern test on Saturday against a high-flying Brixham side. While the 55-31 scoreline favored the "Fishermen," the men in green showed immense grit to secure a potentially season-saving try bonus point.

​First Half: A See-Saw Battle
​Sidmouth started with intent, utilizing their clinical set-piece to stun the hosts early on. Ho**er Nathan Tomkins opened the scoring via a well-executed catch-and-drive.
​
After Brixham pulled five points back, Jake Smith crossed the line following a brilliant line-break by centre George Locke.
​
Brixham clawed back into the lead (17-14) by the 35th minute, but Sidmouth had the final word of the half. Rabbie Hansford powered over from another lineout drive to send Sidmouth into the sheds with a narrow 19-17 lead.

​Second Half: The Tide Turns
​The third quarter proved decisive. Brixham shifted gears, scoring four unanswered tries to take control of the match. However, Sidmouth refused to roll over. In the final ten minutes, Nathan Tomkins completed a standout individual performance, scoring two more tries from the trademark Sidmouth catch-and-drive.
​These late scores ensured Sidmouth walked away with a four-try bonus point, a crucial consolation in their fight for survival.

Sidmouth:
TRIES: Nathan Tomkins (3), Rabbie Hansford, Jake Smith.
CONS: Lewis Tose (3).

​The Road to Safety: Regional 1 SW Standings
​With only three games remaining, the pressure is mounting at the bottom of the table.

The Goal: Sidmouth must overtake Launceston to claim 8th place and avoid a high-stakes relegation play-off.
​Next Up: Next Saturday's clash against Chew Valley is more than just a home game—it is a preview of the potential relegation play-off. A win at the Blackmore is essential to close the 4-point gap on Launceston and secure Sidmouth’s future in Regional 1 SW.

This Saturday (14th March) the SRFC Rugby Ramble takes centre stage, with over 275 men walking to raise money for Sidmouth Hospice at Home — an incredible effort for a fantastic local cause. Please show your support if you see them along the way!
