Apologies for the lateness in posting!

Saturday 16th may saw our monthly beach comp which was a species hunt. It was well attended with 11 seniors and 5 juniors fishing. Conditions were challenging to start, wet and windy with a fresh breeze which did ease off as the night went on and several species landed including rockling, dogfish, huss and wrasse, including a cracking huss landed for Rich of 8lb 1oz. Top rod of the night went to Nathan Lascelles with 7 fish for 170 points, joint 2nd Richard Trim & Phil Cocker with 6 fish for 135 points and 3rd was Dan Hunt with 5 fish for 120 points. In the juniors Mckenzie managed 5 school bass and molly managed 1 also. Hopegully the fishing will start to pick up now ad we see thr transition into warmer weatger and the appearance of the summer species !

NEWSLETTER MAR 2026

Welcome to the latest newsletter

The fishing hasn’t been great again – since the last newsletter, only one beach competition has been fished. It was fished by 9 seniors & 7 juniors. It was won by Luke Hutchings with an L*D of 1lb 10 ½ oz, 2nd was Phil Cocker with an L*D of 1lb 10oz & 3rd was Nathan Lascelles with an L*D of 1lb ½ oz. Mckenzie won the juniors with 2 L*D & a bull huss for 5 points, Molly came 2nd with 2 L*D for 4 points & Hunter came 3rd with a conger eel for 3 points. Liara & Dexter had 2 points each as they fished but did not catch anything. There were 2 other juniors fishing, but Richard didn’t know who they were. If they are members, can they get in touch with Richard asap please so their points can be allocated?
There were no fish weighed in for FOTM – Richard said he knew fish had been caught, but neither he nor Steve Baker were not told about them. Please make sure all fish over 50% are weighed in….

The presentation night was held on the 6th March – it was very well attended & great to see so many of the juniors there. Well done to all those who won trophies – there are pictures of the winners on our page.

The first order of hoodies has now been distributed – another order will be put in as soon as the minimum order of 12 is reached. If members would like one, (& haven’t let me know already) can they do with a size asap please? They are £20 for adults & £23 if a name is embroidered on the front. Thanks

We are planning an evening for rig making etc shortly – for both juniors & all members, but could those that are able give their time to help with this please? A date will be confirmed in due course.

Hopefully there will be some social events organised later in the year. If anyone has any ideas for these, please let me or a committee member know - thanks

We put a team into Sidmouth Rotary club organised Swimathon last Saturday – the Chairman Steve, his daughter Amy, me & 2 of our juniors, Hadi & Pip swam 112 lengths in our allotted 50 minutes.

The annual Easter Egg Raffle is fast approaching – Good Friday – 3rd April – from 9.30am - could we have donations of Easter Eggs from members for it please? There will be the usual hot cross buns, cakes, teas & coffees & the bar will be open later in the morning. There will be a colouring competition for children & a ‘where’s the Easter Bunny hiding’ competition too. It is open to all & now the Watersports Hub building has the lift installed, hopefully more people will be able to attend. The female toilets are due to be refurbished to incorporate a disabled toilet & baby changing facilities in the very near future.

If anyone has any questions, queries or would like help with anything, then please get in touch. We’re on facebook, the club email is [email protected], or I can be contacted on 07801 328686

Friday night saw the clubs annual presentation evening. It was great to see some new faces behind some of the trophys, and was a well attended evening with some great raffle prizes kindly donated as always. Fast forward to saturday evening and it was our monthly beach comp for march for best fish. This was due to be a rover, but changed to seaton-budleigh due to last months poor weather forcing a rover for februarys comp. Again, this was a great turnout with 10 seniors and 7 juniors fishing ! Fishing was 6pm -midnight and with a very light easterly wind there was a slight nip in the air. Everybody battled on regardless though and fish were landed, including quite a few l*d, conger, rockling and huss. Top rod of the night went to Luke Hutchings with a l*d of 1lb 10.5ozs... just 1/2oz off Phil cocker who took 2nd, also with an l*d. Of the 7 juniors who fished, molly, mckenzie and hunter also landed fish to get some points on the juniors board. Top junior of the night went to Mckenzie with 2 l*d and a bullhuss. Our next comp will be april 17th at sidmouth for a species hunt 🎣
