🌱 Looking ahead to non-lead shooting

With lead being withdrawn from shooting in 2029, we’ve been gradually introducing more non-lead cartridges and loaded rifle ammunition at Airgunspares & The Countrystore Gunshop.

Our latest additions come from RC and Jocker, with both ranges featuring biodegradable wad technology.

🔹 RC Steel Shot
The RC Steel Shot cartridges feature an Eco Wad, manufactured from soil-biodegradable certified biopolymers and tested to the ISO 17556 standard. The wad is guaranteed to break down within 2 years.

Loaded with 28g of No.7 steel shot, they are suitable for use in nitro-proofed shotguns, excluding Damascus/twist barrels, with half choke or less. No.7 steel shot is suitable for many clay disciplines, and because steel is lighter than lead, you get more pellets for the same weight.

🔹 Jocker Bio Sport
The Jocker Bio Sport uses a full cardboard tube-style wad, designed to leave just cardboard residue which will naturally decompose with rain and moisture.

Loaded with 21g of No.7 steel shot, these are a great option for shooters looking for a lighter-recoiling cartridge, including side-by-side users and junior shooters. They are also suitable for nitro-proofed shotguns, excluding Damascus/twist barrels, with half choke or less.

The 21g steel load provides a pellet count roughly equivalent to a 24g lead load, thanks to steel being lighter.

We’ve got more non-lead products on the horizon from other manufacturers, so now is a good time to start trying steel and find out what works best for you.

We also have a growing range of non-lead loaded rifle ammunition, with many popular calibres covered.

With the forthcoming lead shot ban, we have started to expand our range of steel shot clay cartridges.

The Hull Cartridge Company Pro-Steel 28gram 7’s, Superfast 28gram 7’s and new to the line Superfast 24gram 7’s are now available in our shop. Currently only available with a plastic wad, these cartridges have been tested by some of our staff and the reports back are very positive.

We are hoping to expand the range of steel cartridges in the next few months, with bio wad steel cartridges available soon from RC Cartridges.

For those who are worried about steel in their older guns, there is an alternative being tested that should hopefully be released soon.

In our latest video, Paul takes us through the latest arrival in our shop.

The Spartan Javelin Light bipod offers air rifle and rifle shooters a lightweight, versatile bipod that can be used across multiple platforms.

Using a simple but effective magnetic mounting system, the one bipod will fit multiple air guns or rifles, simply by adding an adapter to each gun.

Spartan are a small, British company that specialises in bipods and shooting sticks, many of which are used by the military and professional hunters.

Utilising carbon fibre, Spartan’s aim is to shake up the traditional bipod market with their unique designs.

We are always happy to order air rifles and air pistols in for customers if it is something that we don’t stock normally.

One of our customers asked us for the Umarex Legends MP40 Legacy, which we ordered and got in for them the very next day.

We’ve just received our first stock of the impressive HIKMICRO ALPEX 4K Lite Digital Day & Night Vision Scope with integrated laser range finder, and it’s safe to say it’s one of the most interesting digital optics we’ve handled recently.

Built with a magnesium alloy body and a traditional 30mm tube design, the ALPEX 4K Lite keeps things compact and lightweight while still delivering some serious technology. The 4K CMOS sensor combined with the HD display and large F2.0 objective lens produces incredibly detailed images in daylight and low-light conditions.

One feature that really stands out is the integrated laser range finder, capable of measuring distances from 3m out to 1000m with impressive accuracy. Paired with the internal ballistic calculation system, it’s designed to help shooters better understand distance and trajectory in the field.

The scope also offers selectable 50fps and 100fps frame rates depending on whether you’re observing stationary targets or tracking movement, while adaptive low-light technology helps bring out detail even when light levels drop.

Startup time is just about one second, and when using the internal and external 18650 batteries it can run for around seven hours — ideal for longer sessions out in the field.

It also connects with the HIKMICRO Sight App, allowing users to record footage, adjust settings and log locations.

We’ve also got the matching Hikmicro IR torches and mounting brackets available for those interested in building a full setup.

The new HIKMICRO HABROK 4K 2.0 Multi-Spectrum Binocular has now arrived at Airgunspares & The Countrystore Gunshop.

This impressive all-in-one observation device combines high sensitivity thermal imaging, a 4K digital optical channel, infrared night vision and an integrated laser rangefinder in a single compact unit.

Designed for demanding field use, the HABROK 4K 2.0 offers excellent detection and image clarity in low light and complete darkness, while the 4K optical sensor provides detailed colour imagery when conditions allow. With advanced thermal technology, smooth image processing and intuitive binocular-style controls, it’s built to make scanning and observation easier in a wide range of environments.

We’ve also added the superb WULF Raptor 2.0 Carbon Fibre Tripod to our range. This lightweight yet stable tripod provides a solid platform for your air rifle or rifle and features a versatile mounting system. It can be used with a saddle grip (padded jaws holding the rifle underneath and at the sides), an ARCA rail mount, or a Weaver rail mount — all built into the same fitting, so you don’t need extra attachments when switching between different rifles.
