🏏💙 Another busy and positive day for Newport Cricket Club’s Girls & Ladies section!

Our U12 Girls Softball team travelled to Wellington and secured a fantastic 85-run victory! 🎉 A special shout-out to Georgia, who made her debut for Newport, and to Katie for her endless encouragement and support throughout the match 🌟

Back at home, our Ladies team took on Madeley, narrowly losing by 20 runs. Despite the result, there were plenty of positives to take away. Our fielding was strong, every batting pair contributed valuable runs, and we continue to improve with every game. There was a great team spirit throughout the match, with everyone giving their all. 💪

Yesterday’s Player of the Match goes to Lou for her outstanding effort in the field, including a brilliant catch! 🏏👏

Special mentions to Kaci and Cathy, who joined Lou in saving countless boundaries and keeping the pressure on the opposition throughout the match. 👏🏏

🏏🌍Just 2 weeks to go until our Girls & Ladies Festival on Sunday 28th June at Newport Cricket Club as we celebrate the ICC Women’s T20 World Cup England & Wales 2026! 🌏🏏

🎉 Get into the World Cup spirit and come dressed up for the occasion. Whether it’s a cricket shirt, national colours, face paint or a full fancy-dress outfit, we’d love to see your creativity!

To add to the fun, each team will be randomly assigned a Women’s T20 World Cup nation by Naomi from Cricket Shropshire ahead of the festival.

Enjoy a fantastic day of cricket, pizza, ice cream, games, raffle prizes and great music.

Girls: 10:00am–12:30pm
Ladies: 1:30pm–4:00pm

🍻The bar will be open all day and spectators are very welcome, so come along and support the teams while enjoying a great day at the club.

Our 2nd XI observed a minute’s silence before today’s match in memory of Anthony “Hydey” Hyde, who sadly passed away on Monday.

Hydey was a valued member of Newport Cricket Club for many years and a great friend to so many. He will be greatly missed by everyone at the club.

All Newport Cricket Club teams are holding a minute’s silence before their matches this weekend as a mark of respect.

Our thoughts and condolences are with Hydey’s family and friends at this difficult time.

Sarah and Alison from our Ladies Team each attended the opening match of the T20 World Cup at Edgbaston yesterday evening with their daughter(s).

Alison was lucky enough to win her tickets through a competition run by Cricket Shropshire, who have provided several ticket opportunities for girls and women involved in cricket across Shropshire.

They had a fantastic evening watching England Women in action, and to top it all off, England came away with the win! 🏏👏

Our 2nd XI are in action at home today, starting at 12:00pm.

If you’re looking to escape the carnival crowds for a while, come down to Newport Cricket Club, enjoy an afternoon of cricket, and relax with a drink. The bar will be open from 3:00pm. 🍻

Please note that Audley Avenue will be closed at some point during the day, so allow extra time for your journey.
