Our very own Shropshire Shuffler, Alan Morris, has completed the Hope House Cycle Challenge and what an incredible achievement it was!
Alan has supported Hope House since 1993, helping raise the funds that built the hospice. He organised one of the first fundraising events to contribute to the ยฃ1.5 million needed at the time and has taken part in many fundraising challenges ever since. Today, that support means even more, as his grandson Ruairi, who lives with Duchenne Muscular Dystrophy, receives respite care there.
On Sunday 9th August, Alan took on the 56 mile challenge in scorching heat, riding alongside his friend, Andrew Clough, while his son Tim and friend Keith Richards completed the 70 mile route. Alan and Andrew finished in an impressive five hours - even after an unexpected road closure added an extra hill!
Alan said โWhile Iโm fit enough to do it I will. I have always looked after myself and kept active โ thatโs the secret to be able to do it at 84. The best bit of the race was finishing to be greeted by my grandson Ruairiโ.
Alan and his fellow heroes have raised an amazing ยฃ1,160 for Hope House so far.
