Shrewsbury Sub Aqua Club (SSAC), The Largest Scuba Diving Club in Shrewsbury! Every Thursday evening at 19.30 in the Shrewsbury Quarry Swimming Centre Cafe

Welcome to Shrewsbury Sub Aqua Club! We are a BSAC dive centre (number 0626) based at the Quarry Pool in Shrewsbury. Members of Shrewsbury Sub Aqua Club have mixed diving abilities, ranging from beginning Ocean Divers to highly skilled Technical Divers, many of whom regularly take part in the calendar of dives and social events frequently organised by the club. We have a group of friendly and experienced instructors who take our divers through various training courses and qualifications, and there are additional skills development courses such as charterwork and boat handling on offer to members.

🌊 Farne Islands Club Weekend! 🦭🤿
What a great weekend with a fantastic turnout of 21 divers heading up to the Farne Islands!

Saturday brought good weather and slightly rough seas, while Sunday was wet and windy — but that didn’t stop us getting wet both in and out of the water! 😄

We spotted plenty of seals out of the water, although they clearly weren’t interested in joining us for a dive! 🦭 Unfortunately, they kept their underwater adventures to themselves.

The seas were a little chillier than we’re used to down in Wales, but the visibility was nice and clear, giving us a great chance to see the amazing variety of marine life the Farnes have to offer.

It was also a fantastic introduction to UK sea diving for some of our newer divers, and a brilliant weekend all round.

Some of our members headed to Capernwray this weekend, alongside our newest qualified Ocean Diver, Tomasz! 🎉🤿
Tomasz completed his qualifying dives and achieved his BSAC Ocean Diver qualification — a fantastic achievement after working hard in his own time with the guidance and support of Gordon throughout his training.

Alongside this, Selena and Dan were busy getting some dry-suit training in too! 👌🤿

Huge congratulations, Tomasz! 👏🎉 And a big thank you to Gordon, Selena, and everyone else who helped out this weekend.

Here’s to many more dives and adventures! 🌊🤿

Great weekend of diving off Plymouth with ‘In Deep Charters’. Saturday saw us dive on the Scylla frigate that had an abundance of dead man’s fingers and other marine life growing on it which encouraged plenty of sea-life. The afternoon we were treated to a dive on the James Eagan Lane, a WWII American Liberty Ship; although broken up it proved to be very impressive and left all divers feeling very happy and eager to dive Sunday. The groups first dive on Sunday was taken over rougher seas to the SS Persier WWII wreck. Although very broken up you were able to identify a lot of parts to the wreck including the huge boilers. This wreck housed a phenomenal amount of conger eels and other marine life. The afternoon dive was on Cawsand Bay the highlight being the amount of large octopus on show. Overall the group had a fantastic weekend of successful diving and cannot wait for their next dive trips.

Four dives were completed up in Anglesey this weekend by some of our club members!
Saturday saw the team diving at Puffin Island, while Sunday’s dives were tucked in behind North Stack to get a little shelter from the wind.
A special shoutout to Dan, who completed his very first boat dive this weekend — a fantastic achievement!
And a massive thank you to Rob for driving the boat and helping make the weekend possible.
Despite the weather, everyone had a great time both above and below the water!

Sunday saw Shrewsbury Sub Aqua Club heading to Stoney Cove quarry for a great day of diving.
Huge respect to Dan for braving the water in just a wetsuit while the rest were still feeling the chill in our drysuits 🥶 — absolute hero!
With clear waters and plenty of sunshine, it turned out to be a fantastic and successful dive day all round 🤿🫶

With ocean diving starting next week, we spent our Thursday sorting gear and getting everything ready to welcome our new divers 🌊🤿
One of the systems that makes our dive days run smoothly is our simple but effective tank tag system. These tags let everyone know at a glance which tanks are ready to go and which need attention—saving us from fully kitting up only to discover an empty tank and having to de-kit again!
Tank tags:
🟢 Green – Full
🟠 Orange – One more dive left
🔴 Red – Needs refilling

With our pool sessions starting again tonight, we’re excited to say there are just two weeks to go until our Ocean Diver course begins!
We look forward to welcoming anyone who’s interested in learning to dive.
All you need to take part is:
- To be 12 years or older
- Able to swim 200 metres
- And, of course, a love for the ocean

Our experienced dive instructors will guide you through the entire process and are always happy to share their knowledge and answer any questions along the way.
