It’s drowning prevention week this week, when going for a swim this summer make sure you know the risks associated with swimming in cold water, even if the weather is warm the water will still be considered cold, before entering the sea/lochs/rivers and enjoy your summer swims safely 🌊☀️🏊♀️
Warm weather during the summer months can see many of us to want to jump in the water to cool off, but do you and your family know the dangers of cold water?
Cold water shock claims lives every single year but with the right knowledge, these drownings can be avoided. The term ‘cold water shock’ refers to a range of natural reactions that our bodies take to protect us when we enter cold water (although these reactions can sometimes work against us). And with cold water being anything from approximately the temperature of a swimming pool and below, we are not just talking about icy cold water here.
